Adapt for Educational! This is great advice for building your PLN!

Suggestion: Don't ask an OBVIOUS question just to get someone to reply to a Tweet or an email. Do your homework.  Ex. For anyone who reads my Tweets or my  blog asking how I got my avatars seems lazy or inattentive. I've blogged, Tweeted, & written extensively on Avatar Generators.

Rather, ask what's your favourite use for an avatar? That's a creative question that starts a conversation that's not giving me extra work repeating myself (OK, I'm admittedly lazy!)

What gets me to follow you on Twitter? People who RT me & add their 2 cents in a smart funny way. People who I see don't ONLY RT but also share interesting stuff and share their work shamelessy & generously are most likely to get me to follow them. Those who complain or whine will not be followed. Who wants to talk to a Debbie downer at at party, right? Those who are positive, encourraging, optimistic, & fun! That's who I want to socialize with, don't forget the SOCIAL in social networking. Hey wait, this would be a good blog post, right?

Hmmm [deftly adds to her "must to post sugggestion draft folder"]

12 Keys to Success on Twitter

12 Keys to Success on Twitter | lärresurser | Scoop.it

Twitter was never designed to be a social network but it has become one.

In fact it was designed initially in 2006 to used by individuals as an SMS type service to communicate with a small group at the podcasting company Odeo.

When I first joined Twitter in 2008, I was underwhelmed and wondered as to its usefulness. Its early attraction to me was its novelty factor.

It has overcome this challenge and four years later it has built an impressive resume.

Over 140 million active users as of 2012 Generates over 340 million tweets daily Handles over 1.6 billion search queries per day Tenth most visited site on the internet

In the nearly six years since its founding over 600 million users have registered Twitter accounts.

I supposed twitter can be used or any tool can be used for anything, but some tools are made with certain intended affordance by the creator that would make the tool less effective for certain functions. curation in a way is capturing things void of time (i probably drawing too much from museum), while twitter is fast pace timeline of interactive (or one way) discourse.... they seems to be inherently different.

i'm just automatically sceptical when 'one tool can be use for all' theme appear. but it is an interesting suggestion.
Bonnie Bracey Sutton's comment, June 11, 2013 6:33 PM
Many people learn one tool and then move on to others. I like to analyze each and use the best features of that particular 2.0 project. I use twitter as a push tool to share info for the most part.

I usually do follow back those who RT me with a salient, amusing, or clever comment or thought. Esp. if they have a profile photo, description, and web link to their work. I look to see if they engage in conversations or only auto RT others. I DO like a lively convo!  For more & a bonus COMIC  -See my

Students, using Twitter will introduce you to this genre of writing; will teach you to be precise and economical with words; can be a valuable learning resource if you tap into the right groups; is authentic English; can be used for writing or speaking prompts; will enable you to join communties of interest etc.
