50 Phrases overused by English-speaking bosses... and that their employees just hate

50 Phrases overused by English-speaking bosses... and that their employees just hate | The English briefcase | Scoop.it

When you're a boss, you sometimes talk a lot.

The problem might be, though, that you talk a lot of gibberish.

This can annoy your staff to the point at which they think you're not worth listening to. Which might just affect your ambitions.

Here, then, is a new survey in which  British employees declared their 50 most annoying phrases that come out of bosses' mouths.

It was commissioned by SPANA, an organization that offers free veterinary care for animals in developing countries.

As we first run down the list of the worst 10, please spend your day monitoring how many of these phrases you use. Then repent.

A New survey asks employees which pieces of business speak they hate most. There are a lot.

rodrick rajive lal's curator insight, January 15, 3:14 AM

This is surprising, we all use the words, cliches in fact: thinking out of the box, touch base, going forward, heads up, its on my radar, and even game changer! And we think these words are cool! The truth is that these words cosntitute what is called 'gibberish'. It is surprising that using such high sounding terms might annoy staff into thinking that their boss is not worth listening to! Well if a large number of British employees wrote these words and expressions in their list of fifty most annoying phrases used by their bosses, then there must be some truth in this!

Fred Stenson's curator insight, February 9, 12:16 PM

Even people in business are annoyed at these. Why can't anyone stop using them?

I’m an American in London. Here’s What I Learned from the British About Bad Behavior. | The English briefcase | Scoop.it
A few years ago, I moved to China to write a Western etiquette book for Chinese. It featured advice on such topics as the non-negotiable issue of personal hygiene, the rules of a handshake, making sense of foreigners, and what Westerns consider bad behavior.Truth be told, nothing about what constitutes bad behavior in the West is entirely clear, except that there seems to be a trend toward forgiving it. What were once the hallmarks of acceptable behavior have shifted in a number of ways: with ou

Comprehensive List of Free e-Book Websites for your e-Reader

Comprehensive List of Free e-Book Websites for your e-Reader | The English briefcase | Scoop.it

If you own an e-reader you often can only buy e-books from the bookstore that is bundled on your device. Many of the budget e-readers out there don’t even have a bookstore that is accessible by users and many people are left to fend for themselves to load content on it.

Here is a comprehensive free e-book resource catalog online. All of these books are hardware agnostic, which means they are not locked by DRM (Digital Rights Management). All you have to do is simply download a title and load in via the USB cable from your computer to your e-reader. Many of these sites also provide the books in more than one format, so they will work with your Amazon Kindle, Kobo, Barnes and Noble Nook, Sony e-reader and hundreds of others.
