The 21st Century Teacher | Languages, Learning & Technology | Scoop.it
A free online community devoted solely to education in the 21st Century. Communicate, Collaborate, Network, Share and Learn. We have so much to talk about.

An excerpt from Sir Ken Robinson's talk, "Changing Education Paradigms."

"...The problem is they are trying to meet the future by doing what they did in the past. And on the way they are alienating millions of kids who don't see any purpose in going to school. When we went to school we were kept there with the story, which is if you worked hard and did well and got a college degree you'd have a job.

Our kids don't believe that and they are right not to..."

Teacher Technology Change: How Knowledge, Confidence, Beliefs, and Culture Intersect

PDF: http://etcjournal.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/ertmer.pdf (Ertmer & Ottenbreit-Leftwich, 2010)

"Despite increases in computer access and technology training, technology is not being used to support the kinds of instruction believed to be most powerful. In this paper, we examine technology integration through the lens of the teacher as an agent of change: What are the necessary characteristics, or qualities, that enable teachers to leverage technology resources as meaningful pedagogical tools?

To answer this question, we discuss the literature related to four variables of teacher change: knowledge, self-efficacy, pedagogical beliefs, and subject and school culture. Specifically, we propose that teachers’ mindsets must change to include the idea that “teaching is not effective without the appropriate use of information and communication technologies (ICT) resources to facilitate student learning.” Implications are discussed in terms of both teacher education and professional development programs."

Hi Jeroen, I think we are still missing some points in this article. All groups tend to look inwards when trying to solve this type of problem. My own research is suggesting that we should look outwards and embrace the input of disciplines other than our own. For a start look at marketing. We are all well acquainted with the Technology Adoption Life Cycle but do we really understand how it works in educational technology. Take a look at Paul Wiefels book The Chasm Companion printed in 2002 by Capstone Publishing.
