Google #ASR Supports (Only) 30 New Languages

Google #ASR Supports (Only) 30 New Languages | Language Tech Market News | Scoop.it
Google has announced that it's expanding speech-to-text support for 30 new languages and dialects, allowing more people across globe to type, translate and search using just their voice.
LT-Innovate's insight:

Is that many languages or just a few? We need shared standards/targets of language coverage, starting in the large 10s (say 50) but rapidly going up to the multi-100s of languages. Anything less is just 20th century. thinking. Do we know the cost of "digitizing" a language for #ASR / TTS? Is the price declining rapidly or not? As usual, the criterion is data availability.

LexisNexis on the Future of Legal AI

LexisNexis on the Future of Legal AI | Language Tech Market News | Scoop.it

Interview on Lexis Answers, the company's R&D: Future lab projects:

  • Deep learning capabilities through artificial neural networks
Advanced interfaces, such as cognitive assistants or chatbots that can communicate both via voice and text input/output.
  • Entity extraction and relationship mapping for improved data analytics and visualization
  • Personalization, where the technology “learns” the needs of it users, anticipates their needs based on their past behaviors, remembers where they left off in their legal research, and delivers more customized results based on their role within the organization.
  • Smarter decisioning tools such as prescriptive analytics that can proactively make recommendations on what legal strategies to employ, based on outcomes of similar cases.
  • Greater man/machine interaction, such as asking the user questions if the system does not have enough information to make a decision or recommendation; proactively conducting legal or Internet research to find relevant information that can support or refute the user’s case; or even draft case arguments based on inputted fact patters or case concepts, using verbiage taken from the outcomes of similar, successful cases.

AppTek Announces Media Syncing Platform Driven By #ASR Technology

Auto-Sync is an extremely valuable platform for media producers, creators and owners globally," announced Adam Sutherland, AppTek CEO. "The act of marrying the existing script or transcript to the actual media asset allows for more accurate closed captioning, subtitling, discoverability, and facilitates re-use through more accurate archive searching."

LT-Innovate's insight:

Notice the rising interest in multimodal content - speech streams in video transformed into searchable text or direct s-titling/captioning.  Which in turn drive better media search etc. How will ML and deep learning improve the multiplicity in these processes - for example getting a summary in another language from a multimodal search for knowledge? Or a "visual" summary of text?
