Rich Internet Applications for Language Learning | Center of Language Education and Reseach | Language | Scoop.it

Using our Rich Internet Applications toolset, incorporating speaking and listening into your language class is easier and more flexible than ever! The tools can be used in many different ways: for in-class activities, student projects, homework, or assessment. Because they are tools, not completed materials, they will work with your textbook, language, and level. RIA is a way to help you easily integrate technology into your language class.

The programs are free to use. The project is funded by a US Department of Education grant, and managed by the Center for Language Education And Research at Michigan State University.

Study shows social positioning may affect student learning

Study shows social positioning may affect student learning | Language | Scoop.it
Teachers can help their students who are learning English as a second language by understanding how a process called social positioning affects them, University of Arkansas professor Hayriye Kayi-Aydar writes in a paper published this fall in TESOL...

Quoting the article: "Social positioning theory says that people take on various positions within groups and assign positions to others, mostly through talking, according to research cited in Kayi-Aydar's article. Social status, gender, race and culture may impact positioning, which may change over time as relationships between people evolve."

This underscores the importance of teachers being aware of these dynamics and also making students aware, in order to aim for quality classroom interaction.
