Writer Christy Marx On The Return Of 'Amethyst' [Interview] - ComicsAlliance

Writer Christy Marx On The Return Of 'Amethyst' [Interview] - ComicsAlliance | Ladies Making Comics | Scoop.it
Thanks to her work on TV shows like G.I. Joe and the creation of Jem and the Holograms, writer Christy Marx is already a ComicsAlliance favorite. This week, though, she's part of the team returning Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld to comics in the pages of Sword of Sorcery #0, and to say that we're looking forward to it is an understatement.

To find out more, I asked Marx about where she's planning to take Amethyst in her relaunch, whether she sees a problem in how superhero comics attract female readers, and just why the Misfits' songs were so much better than Jem's.

Sports meets superheroes in new sci-fi series 'Mara'

Sports meets superheroes in new sci-fi series 'Mara' | Ladies Making Comics | Scoop.it
The Olympics proved inspiring for writer Brian Wood and artist Ming Doyle in their futuristic story of a powerful volleyball player.

Mara Prince is the star of the new Image Comics book, debuting in December, and the poster child for Wood's superhero-meets-sports story. She's the ace player for a national team on an Earth heavily steeped in monoculture — and one obsessed with sports and warfare — but her status quo changes permanently during a game when she discovers she has more than a wicked serve.

Wear It Purple – An Interview With Artist Lindsay Walker » ChronicleChamber

Wear It Purple – An Interview With Artist Lindsay Walker » ChronicleChamber | Ladies Making Comics | Scoop.it

Wear It Purple is a movement that works to battle discrimination toward one of the most misunderstood of minorities; the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer community. Given the name of the movement there is no better hero than The Phantom to fight this cause and we think you’ll agree it’s something he’d fight for. In this article we talk to an artist who has worked on The Phantom and identifies as transgender – Lindsay Walker.

‘Lindsay Walker’ may not be a name phans recognize. This is because up until two years ago Lindsay was Mick Collins. Mick, who had worked on Moonstone’s The Phantom: Ghost Who Walks and Phantom: Generations series, among other Moonstone projects, identified as transgender and not long after finishing her last project for Moonstone took steps to become her female alter ego, Lindsay.

Everything I Needed to Know I Learned in Comic Books

Everything I Needed to Know I Learned in Comic Books | Ladies Making Comics | Scoop.it
My mother never saw value in reading comic books. She called it “a waste of money” and, worse, “a waste of my time.” Unfortunately for her, I was a stubborn kid. When she ‘threatened’ to never pay for my comics again, I got a part time job and paid for them myself. When she refused to get me a ride to the comic book store, I took four different buses a total of twelve miles—including a half-mile walk to the bus stops on either end. When she told me I would never amount to anything because I read them, I got straight As, a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, a masters in business administration, and, oh, a few books published.

Ethel Hays worked in the era’s standard female genres yet rose above them.
