En France, deux start-up planchent depuis de longues années sur ces lunettes à réalité augmentée (LIRA). À commencer par Laster Technologies et Optinvent. Basée à Rennes, cette dernière a été créée en 2007 par des ingénieurs de Technicolor spécialisés notamment dans les technologies de vidéoprojection.
