An Online Encyclopedia that Writes Itself | L'impresa "mobile" | Scoop.it

They look a bit like communally written Wikipedia pages. But these articles—concise profiles of people and organizations, complete with lists of connected organizations, people, and events—were in fact written by computers, in a new bid by the Pentagon to build machines that can follow global news events and provide intelligence analysts with useful summaries in close to real time.

The first all-carbon photovoltaic cell

The first all-carbon photovoltaic cell | L'impresa "mobile" | Scoop.it

June 26, 2012

About 40 percent of the solar energy reaching Earth's surface lies in the near-infrared region of the spectrum — energy that conventional silicon-based solar cells are unable to harness. But a new kind of all-carbon solar cell developed by MIT researchers could tap into that unused energy, opening up the possibility of combination solar cells — incorporating both traditional silicon-based cells and the new all-carbon cells — that could make use of almost the entire range of sunlight's energy.

SharePoint 2010: Why after 2 years is it still so hard?

With Microsoft’s acquisition of Yammer hitting the headlines last week, businesses are once again awash with questions about SharePoint’s credentials as a social platform.
It’s no secret that Microsoft SharePoint 2010 is one of the most pervasive technology platforms of recent years – it has gained a record number of licenses, a reported 125 million in just over two years. And the numbers just keep on rising. Whether you use SharePoint Foundations, Enterprise or Office 365, the chances are, SharePoint has made its presence known within your business.
Unfortunately, despite its ubiquity, SharePoint suffers from a host of worst practices for adoption. In “Taking your SharePoint Implementation to the Next Level”, we discussed the reality that organizations have to stick with, and make SharePoint work, but that enterprise decision-making is focused incorrectly. There is too much focus on the needs of implementors which results in a punishing user experience that sabotages adoption.

Entertainment industry to Japanese ISPs: we'll hand you a secret list of copyrighted works, and you have to block them | L'impresa "mobile" | Scoop.it

As part of Japan's batshit new 10-years-in-jail-for-uploading copyright law, the Recording Industry Ass. of Japan is demanding that ISPs install network filters that spy on all user activity and attempt to detect copyright infringements by comparing every user upload to a massive, secret database of "fingerprints" of copyrighted music, created by Gracenote.

Appello all’ICT per l'Emilia | Computerworld Italia

Appello all’ICT per l'Emilia | Computerworld Italia | L'impresa "mobile" | Scoop.it
