x- and y-intercepts

X and Y intercepts
Miss Lund's insight:

This video shows how to find what the x and y intercepts of a linear equation (straight line). Using both videos, complete the following tasks:

Can you find the equation of the line, the x-intercept and the y-intercept for the following co-ordinates?

(-4,-3) and (1,7)

(-2,1) and (4,-8)

(0,-4) and (2,4)

(-5,1) and (5,3)

(2,8) and (3,12)

(-5,17) and (-2,11)

Using the program 'Graphmatica' (which should be installed on your laptops), graph the equations you have found above. Enter each co-ordinate given above into the 'Data Plot Editor' (found under 'View' along the top bar).

For the first set of co-ordinates, where does it intersect (cross) another line (found through 'Find Intersection' under 'Tools')?

Constructing the equation of a line given two points

Equation of a line 3
Miss Lund's insight:

Finding the equation of a line when given two points is simple when you follow this procedure. Watch the video and apply this procedure to each set of co-ordinates below.

(1,4) and (3, 8)

(2,2) and (5,5)

(-3,6) and (4,10)

(-2,-1) and (5,3)

(0,5) and (7, -11)

When finished, comment which equation has the steepest gradient.
