Could there be 'Water Wars' in the Future?

Could there be 'Water Wars' in the Future? | ks3humanities | Scoop.it

The debate on aquifers continues as new technologies designed by oil companies are able to tap historic water reserves deep in the Earth's crust.  The geopolitical significance of water rises as population growth within dry climates continue to rise.   As more countries (and people) compete for limited resources, outbreaks of armed conflict becomes more likely.   The more pertinent question might not be 'if' but 'when.'

The Differentiator

The Differentiator | ks3humanities | Scoop.it

Using an online Bloom's taxonomy tool you may quickly create your objectives choosing a thinking skill (levels and verbs provideded), content (depth, complexity, imperatives), resources (offline and/or online -detailed), final product (chioces of visual, construct, oral, multimedia and written), and size of group (1 - 4).

I have used this and it is useful.

Digital scrapbooks for student creativity, self-expression, and imagination - Beeclip EDU

Beeclip EDU is a fun and easy-to-use scrapbooking app that promotes student creativity, self-expression, and imagination.

*Add photos and videos by dragging them to your scrapbook page
*The extras section provides backgrounds, borders and stickers
*You can add friend as editors, creating a “scrapbook together”
*Add text – many shapes, sizes and colors available
*Wide choice of background colors
*Share, download and/or print

* Insert additional pages

This is a new tool (to me) and so far the choices are somewhat limited but it appears that more will be added. There is a free account available for teachers.

Had a quick look myself and will try it out.

Departing the Text: Understanding Underachievers

This post looks at underachievers, with a focus on "undiscovered weaknesses or uneven learning skills." Specifically it provides information on weak visual learners, weak verbal learners, graphomotor weaknesses, attention weaknesses, and social factors. In each section there is an explanation followed by suggestions or "possible paths of action." Although written with the parent in mind this is also a great resource for teachers.

EcoArchitecture - Tianjin Eco-City

EcoArchitecture - Tianjin Eco-City | ks3humanities | Scoop.it

The 30 square kilometre Tianjin Eco-City is to serve as a model for future developing Chinese cities. As China rapidly modernises, there is need to create a sustainable city model as increasing rural-urban migration places pressures and demands on overtaxed and crowded existing cities. Situated 45 kilometres from Tianjin City and 150 kilometres from the Chinese capital of Beijing, the site of the Tianjin Eco-City is just a 10 minutes drive from the business parks at the Tianjin Economic-Development Area.
Expected to house 350,000 residents when the project is fully completed in 2020, the Tianjin Eco-City is based on the key tenets of people-people, people-environment and people-economy harmony. With 26 Key Performance Indicators (KPI) governing its developmental approaches towards a replicable, scalable and practical eco-city, the Tianjin Eco-City will be the prototype upon which future Chinese cities are modelled upon.
A conscious effort was made not to create a generic city devoid of humanising features or cognitive characteristics, one that is replicated ad infinitum in cities of rapidly developing economies. With the aim of creating a sense of place, the urban design of the scheme is driven by a set of coordinated solutions with theme.

Qwiki - The Information Experience

Qwiki has launched a new site, which is a "presentation platform" and it appeared that the material from the original Qwiki was gone...but it is available under this new URL.
For those of you who have not tried Qwiki it is worth checking out. Type in your search term and it is transformed into a visual presentation, with real-time audio narration and other data including maps, movies, images, animations and more.

I tried it and it would work well with kids who struggle to identify useful information.
