Quill - Writing Worksheets Made Interactive

Quill - Writing Worksheets Made Interactive | ks3humanities | Scoop.it

"Quill is a service that provides an updated take on the old writing worksheets that most of us used in elementary school and middle school. The service offers more than just the writing practice activities, but that is its core feature."

Beth Dichter's curator insight, May 18, 5:39 PM

Do your students need to practice with grammar and punctuation? Quill provides worksheets for students in Grades 1 - 8 that have spelling and grammar errors. Students have to correct the errors. Quill corrects the papers, showing students what they did correctly, or what needs to be corrected.

Create your own classroom, provide students a code to sign-in, and pick your assignments. Students work at their pace and you can view their work through the dashboard.

As Richard Byrne states in this post "Having the pre-made activities at your disposal and having the opportunity to quickly see how your students did on each activity will free up some of your time."

There is a video that explains the site in more detail, or you may go directly the the website: http://www.quill.org/

A Tool for Self-Assessment & Reflection

Beth Dichter's curator insight, April 4, 6:21 PM

Andrew Church has created a tool for Self-Assessment and Reflection that asks students to answer 4 questions:

* What can I do? ((How am I going?)

* What can't I do? (How am I going?)

* How does my work compare with others? (How am I going?)

* What can I do better? (Where do I go next?)

And then students are asked to look ahead with this question:

* What are my next steps? (What actions are you going to take as  a result of your reflections? Who can help me? Where to next?)

You can download two versions of this as a pdf file. One is in portrait mode and one in landscape mode. Church also asks that you provide him with feedback.

The CIA World Factbook is a great encyclopedic source of information about all the countries in the world and a great place for students to find information for the classic country report project.  But have you ever wished that the World Factbook would be linked to the current events and media sources for the country of your choice?  That is exactly what the BBC news has created with their Country Profiles page, an expansion on their regional tabs (such as Africa and Asia).   This is a link worth bookmarking, and one I'll including in tag with  a compilation of the best resources that I've put on this site (IMHO-If you have nominees that aren't on the list, let me know).

Jessica Rieman's curator insight, April 23, 11:18 AM

Beijing's Pollution is depicted throug this picture which shows that the factory is the equivalent of the "yello brik road" in this instance because it is where everything happens and where all the work is done and then the city landscape is depicted as cold in the dark grey scale. It depicts not only the spacial regognition but the actual, socitetal views on each place in relation to eachother.

Tracy Galvin's curator insight, May 3, 1:52 PM

It is a beautiful image until you read what it is actually depicting. It is very sad that a nation would choose money over the health of their citizens.

The Authoritative Map

Via Seth Dixon
more...
Mr Ortloff's curator insight, October 8, 2013 9:26 AM

In the Winnie the Pooh Movie Pooh's Grand Adventure, the character Rabbit has absolute confidence in the printed word and especially the map.

Questions to ponder:  How much do we trust any given map?  How much should we trust a map (or the printed word)?  What makes a document reliable or unreliable?

Melissa Marshall's curator insight, November 27, 2013 10:04 PM

The user is putting total trust in the map to get from A to B. How can we trust the map? What are the features of good infromation? A useful discussion-starter.

Steven Flis's curator insight, December 16, 2013 12:38 AM

I think this video is a perfect example of todays modern soceity. Many people in this would today are exactly like rabbit, they believe everything they see without questioning its integrity. this has cause alot of problems in todays internet fueled world with anyone being able to post whatever they want and call it fact. This is where we need more people like Pooh who question everything. Pooh sees where he wants to go with his own eyes and can tell that rabbit is leading him the wrong way. This is relateable to so much in geography but to keep it simple ill compare it to Pythagoras proclaimed the earth was spherical. He question something everyone in the world took as a fact and nobody believed him because it was already stated that the world was flat. Just like pooh questioning the "offical map"
