We are at a point in time where technology will allow us to break the business model of the expensive publishing houses, but at what cost.  High priced journal do add value to the work of academics through coordinating peer review, setting standards and editing.  If we move to open source, who will do this and how  will we rate the standard and voracity of the academic work?
