Mobile, Human Curation: The Trends Behind Decline Of Google News?

Mobile, Human Curation: The Trends Behind Decline Of Google News? | Knowledge Management for Entrepreneurs | Scoop.it

Interesting take by Hamish McKenzie on Pandodaily. In his opinion, the reason Media Publishers feel bold enough to attack Google and feel entitled to have a revenue share is that Google News is a declining service.

He lists Mobile Agregation but also Human Curation as two trends that make its algorithmic filtering less relevant.

So interestingly, while many have attributed to Google's own algorithm changes the demise of  services like Wikio, it seems that now Google's own algorithmic approach is challenged by social curation.

Thanks for all of your comments and responses to my question. Perhaps the relative success of using Wibbitz depends upon the platform (if that's the right term!) upon which the web page rests. Interesting idea though.

Engagement is not a goal it's an outcome

Engagement is not a goal it's an outcome | Knowledge Management for Entrepreneurs | Scoop.it

You often hear people talk about how technology is so “engaging” for kids. But that misses the point. It’s not the technology that’s engaging, it’s the opportunity to use technology to create something that is valued by the community and by yourself. Yes, a new device can be entertaining for a while, but when the novelty value wears off, what are you left with?

From observation to breakthrough | Harold Jarche

From observation to breakthrough | Harold Jarche | Knowledge Management for Entrepreneurs | Scoop.it

"From multiple observations come ideas. From multiple ideas can come new insights. From multiple insights we can create stories. From our stories, we can change beliefs. In a nutshell [my interpretation], this is what Gunther Sonnenfeld discusses in much greater detail in The Great Planning Paradigm. Sonnenfeld’s post is focused on marketing, an area where I have little experience.

I find The Great Planning Paradigm is a good framework to look at innovation (breakthroughs) in general. It also aligns with personal knowledge management (PKM) or those routine behaviours that we can practice and perfect in order to enhance learning and innovation at an organizational level. The PKM framework of Seek-Sense-Share has several similarities. Observations equate to Seeking. Insight equates to Sensing. Telling stories equates to Sharing. It is most interesting to see a connection between PKM and marketing, something I would not have considered. Everything, it seems, is connected..."
