The 'personal' factor, beyond the human factor in KM

The 'personal' factor, beyond the human factor in KM | Corporate Knowledge | Scoop.it

"Perhaps the most useful (and seemingly counter-intuitive) measure to get KM right is not to develop a strategy or an information system – or even better: a portal!!! oh no, pleasenot another one - but first and foremost to hire the right person for the job. Someone who really ‘gets it’ and can influence the rest of the organisation, little by little. Ditto for the other champions that get a KM strategy to fly (even under the radar)."

12 elements that limit change or KM capability | Corporate Knowledge | Scoop.it

"There are 12 elements that limit change or KM capability within an organisation. What are they and how can you go about aligning them? The Usefulness of Useless Knowledge

The Usefulness of Useless Knowledge | Corporate Knowledge | Scoop.it

In an age obsessed with practicality, productivity, and efficiency, we are leaving little room for abstract knowledge and for the kind of curiosity that invites just enough serendipity to allow for the discovery of ideas we didn’t know we were interested in until we are.

Leadership is about connecting and collaborating. The number 1 slill identified by IBM's Global 2013 CEO study is collaboration. It is also one of the top five comoetencies for CPAs in the future from the CPA Horizons 2025 report. Sharing knowledge has been my experience with social media as a tool for sharing and collaboration. It has created that "serendipitous insight' that allows me to connect the dots more easily and make great friends in the process.                                                                                                      I like this quote in the article, "As we share our knowledge more openly with each other, our world becomes more connected, which can lead to greater recognition of our diversity and our common humanity – ultimately leading to greater understanding, and hopefully a world of greater harmony."

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, April 3, 2013 6:14 PM

We need to continue to develop effective ways to share knowledge.

Information Wants to Be Shared

Information Wants to Be Shared | Corporate Knowledge | Scoop.it

Joshua Gans from Rotman School of Management - @joshgans (on Twitter) - has written a new and interesting book: "Information wants to be free."

Using the tools and logic of information economics, Gans shows how sharing enhances most information’s value. He also shows how the business models of traditional media companies, gatekeepers who have relied on scarcity and control, have collapsed in the face of new technologies. Equally important, he argues that sharing can revive moribund, threatened industries even as he examines platforms that have, almost accidentally, thrived in this new environment.

I've just downloaded it from Amazon for $4,39, which is good value for your money.

Applying Knowledge Management: Experiences from the field

Applying Knowledge Management: Experiences from the field | Corporate Knowledge | Scoop.it

"During ancient times in Sri Lanka, Buddhist monks were responsible for education. The “pirivenas” or Buddhist temples were the place youngsters had to go to in order to access knowledge. However some monks were called “guru mushtiyas” and this meant that they hoarded their knowledge and only revealed certain things to the rest in order to not to lose power. They only shared all their knowledge before passing away and this was done to just one person of their choice.

This form of knowledge retention has existed for many years and still permeates many modern societies. The “guru mushtiya” effect is also a problem for organizations here in Sri Lanka, where people still believe that their knowledge is unique and by transferring it to the rest they are most likely to give up their personal competitive advantage."
