Kathy Schrock: 6 Apps That Target Higher-Order Thinking Skills -- THE Journal | Kleinetech Edtech | Scoop.it
A higher-order thinker is a critical thinker. What are the attributes of a critical thinker? In The Miniature Guide to Critical Thinking Concepts and Tools, Richard Paul and Linda Elder describe a well-cultivated critical thinker as someone who:
raises vital questions and problems, formulating them clearly and precisely;gathers and assesses relevant information, using abstract ideas to interpret it effectively; comes to well-reasoned conclusions and solutions, testing them against relevant criteria and standards;thinks open-mindedly within alternative systems of thought, recognizing and assessing their assumptions, implications and practical consequences as need be; andcommunicates effectively with others in figuring out solutions to complex problems.

1. Instructional walkthroughs

2. Record presentations and slides

3. Flipped lessons

4. Student guides

5. The power of post-processing

In addition there is a short video that provides and overview and links and next steps which provides tutorials about Screencast-O-Matic, flipped learning, assessment and more.

Dr. Laura Sheneman's curator insight, November 23, 2014 10:40 AM

Indispensable tool for anyone who trains.

Becky Roehrs's curator insight, November 23, 2014 4:14 PM

The free version doesn't record audio, so use Jing which is free but only records 5 minute videos. Otherwise, pay for Screencast-O-Matic or pay for Snagit (Educator license)..Snagit has lots of features for screenshots and no limits on your video length.

Have You Tried The Aurasma App? ~ Mrs. Wideen's Blog

Have You Tried The Aurasma App? ~ Mrs. Wideen's Blog | Kleinetech Edtech | Scoop.it

"I went to Edcamp Detroit last weekend and Erin Klein shared a free app that she has used in her classroom with a lot of success.  The app is called Aurasma.  The app allows individuals to create and publish their own augmented reality experiences they call "Auras."  I'm sure you are thinking the same thing I was thinking when Erin was talking about this app, "Sounds cool, but what does it do?"  Students and teachers can make lessons come alive with this platform.  It is difficult to explain so I will explain it step by step, then show you what it looks like in action."

Apple’s Planned ‘IWatch’ Could Be More Profitable Than TV

Apple’s Planned ‘IWatch’ Could Be More Profitable Than TV | Kleinetech Edtech | Scoop.it

The global watch industry will generate more than $60 billion in sales in 2013, said Citigroup Inc. analyst Oliver Chen. While that’s smaller than the pool of revenue that comes from TVs, gross margins on watches are about 60 percent, he said. That’s four times bigger than for televisions, according to Anand Srinivasan, a Bloomberg Industries analyst.
