Screenr | Instant screencasts: Just click record

Screenr | Instant screencasts: Just click record | Technology Integration Ideas | Scoop.it

Screenr (screenr.com) is a web-based application that people usually choose to record screen. With this app, you can choose which audio (primary sound, microphone) to record along with the video. Once the video is recorded, you can publish it on Screenr.com (on the condition that you have an account and sigh in) and then you will receive a link of it which you can embed in your blogs or forums. This app also enables you to download the video in the popular MP4 format or just share it to YouTube directly.

However, this application gets its own shortages.

It only permits you to record up to 5 minutes, which is usually not enough to record games, and movies etc.

You can’t save the screencasts to your local disk directly. Insteadly, you have to publish it first and then download it in MP4 format.

It offers no option to pause during recording.

It sometimes cannot work properly because it may fail to activate Java Applet which is a must in running this app.

Padlet - a digital bulletin board for sticky notes with short messages & hyperlinks

Padlet - a digital bulletin board for sticky notes with short messages & hyperlinks | Technology Integration Ideas | Scoop.it

Padlet is a digital bulletin board on which people can leave "sticky notes" with short messages & hyperlinks.  Teachers and students can have active  brainstorming activities, discussions, share web links, post notices, collect feedback, or watch and share videos on Padlet.

Some suggestions for using padlet in the classroom are:

* K-W-L charts for pre and post assessment

* use as a formative assessment tool to check for student understanding

place a sentence starter on a wall and allow students to complete with their own ideas

* allow students to ask questions about topics or assignments

* use a wall for group research projects to share ideas and web addresses

* showcase student work

* use to collect feedback or as a ticket out the door

Meleny Weber's curator insight, December 9, 2013 5:16 PM

The ideas and applications listed in this blog are brilliant. There are some that can be done simply with a digital camera and a computer, which many teachers already own, but having an iPad do what those two things could is much more convenient. An app that really stuck out to me was Quizlet (also online). This allows teachers to make flashcards for upcoming tests and quizzes that their students can also look at to study. Another idea was the "Pick me" app, which is an app that a teacher can list all of his or her students' names, and you click a button that randomly picks a student. This is a more advanced way of using popsicle sticks that so many teachers still use today. It also has a way of recording who answers which questions wrong, so a teacher can notice any trends with a student not completely understanding the curriculum. Great ideas and apps that I will use in my classroom one day!
