How important is it?
Executive functions are the cognitive abilities needed to control and regulate our thoughts, emotions and actions. A distinction is sometimes made between the “cool” component of executive functions which strictly involves cognitive skills (e.g., the ability to do mental arithmetic), and the “hot” component, which reflects the ability to regulate emotions (e.g., being able to control anger).

Grrr. Once again I am reminded just how far behind our district is in tech tools and integration. My own teacher laptop can't even stay on the network. Reload again... and again. I will retire before the kids get devices in their hands on a regular basis. But this will be good for others.

Ours is an age of pedagogy. Anxious parents instruct their children more and more, at younger and younger ages, until they're reading books to babies in the womb. They pressure teachers to make kindergartens and nurseries more like schools.
