Charlie is 3 in jr kindergarten. This will make him 5 when he starts grade 1. We didn't red shirt and our son is showing the red shirted kids who's boss.
Red-shirting is about curriculum and not about what is developmentally appropriate. A candidate for red-shirting is the kid who will not meet the adjusted grade level expectations. Kindergarten IS grade 1 one now. It is hard and no where near being the child centered curriculum of old. It's about data. (And by old I mean, 10 years ago.)
