Spotify introduces music to your social life - Spotify

Spotify introduces music to your social life - Spotify | Kill The Record Industry | Scoop.it

We knew that the service had to be free to draw people away from piracy. Helping them to listen to even more music. To do that, we also knew that the service would have to be inherently social. There couldn’t be a better place to do this than Facebook.

How Three Indie Labels Took Over A Failing Independent Record Collective's Distribution | Billboard.biz | Kill The Record Industry | Scoop.it

Foo Fighters photo waiver one of the severest in the industry: Here's why we didn't sign - Minneapolis Music - Gimme Noise | Kill The Record Industry | Scoop.it
If you've seen our Foo Fighters review today, you'll notice that the only photos we ran were teeny-tiny cell phone shots taken from our reviewer's seats. This wasn't for lack of of a photographer on our part, or a lack of effort: we refused to shoot the show because of an oppressive set of terms laid out by the band's management.

"If you want a song from the iTunes Store, you have to buy it, just like an iPod or iPhone. If you want a piece of vinyl, the same rules apply. Just like they do for CDs, which are responsible for tens of billions in revenue over the past decade.

And, Skullcandy headphones, concert tickets, Sonos systems, and trunk subwoofers. Even Sirius XM Radio, among the most successful subscription services across all entertainment sectors, offers only limited free listening windows."

What an Artist Really Gets Paid, Continued... - Digital Music News | Kill The Record Industry | Scoop.it

"Every once in a while, an artist opens their books for the world to see. Like Uniform Motion, a group that just published a comprehensive breakdown of their album earnings (not revenues) across multiple formats. In most cases, the best way to compensate an artist is to buy direct, though Uniform Motion tossed a wildcard with a name-your-price download on their site. The following measures one full album play on Spotify, one LP purchase, etc. (euros translated to US dollars)..."

Kazaa rolls out music streaming app for iOS devices

Kazaa rolls out music streaming app for iOS devices | Kill The Record Industry | Scoop.it
Kazaa may not have exactly caught fire since it ditched its shady past and went the legit route back in 2009, but the company is still around, and it's now finally released its first mobile app. That comes on the form of an iOS app initially (compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch), which itself is completely free and includes a seven-day trial of the Kazaa music service (including unlimited streaming and downloads of "millions and millions of songs"). Once that's up, however, you'll have to fork over $9.99 a month to keep the service (US-only, for now), which places it in direction competition with the likes of Spotify and Rdio. Hit the link below to try it out for yourself.
