Pirate Bay Has Been Raided and Taken Down: Here's What We Know | WIRED | Kill The Record Industry | Scoop.it

The popular file-sharing service Pirate Bay was taken down today following a raid in Sweden by police who seized servers and computers.

The Pirate Bay portal went down Tuesday morning after Swedish police raided a server room in Stockholm over alleged copyright violations. In addition to its file-sharing section, Pirate Bay’s forum Suprbay.org was also down.

Pierre Priot's insight:

Raiding the Pirate Bay server room is a spectacular move from the Swedish police, but this will not stop the Pirate Bay torrent file sharing nor come close to stop piracy in any way.

“With Love…” from 50 Foot Wave | kristin hersh | Kill The Record Industry | Scoop.it

50 Foot Wave “releases” their latest Ep, “With Love from the Men’s Room” along with the entire back catalog and other assorted goodies via torrent sites and Archive.org. We put the word releases in quotes because, well, releases just ain’t what they used to be. Hell, what is anymore?

Censoring The Pirate Bay is Futile, ISPs Reveal | TorrentFreak | Kill The Record Industry | Scoop.it

All around the world the copyright lobby is pushing for increased censorship of ‘pirate’ websites, The Pirate Bay in particular. Thus far this has resulted in court-ordered blockades in several countries including the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium. However, in recent months evidence has started to stack up showing that these blocking efforts are futile. BitTorrent traffic is not decreasing and the blockades may actually be counterproductive.

The Pirate Bay and its users are copyright infringers, the High Court has established in a judgment that will probably lead to the popular file-sharing site being blocked in the UK.
