Facebook is planning to launch a music streaming service that will directly compete with Spotify and Apple Music, anonymous sources tell Music Ally.

I think it would be a good thing if Facebook joins the music streaming industry.  It would really enhance the compassion between iTunes, google play, and spotify.  It will really bring out the best of what online streaming could really be.  Though Facebook in total is not as popular as it once was, this could be the way that they bring themselves back on top!

I don't think I could have chosen a "hotter" topic happening in the music industry. Looks like every major digital company out there is trying to get their share of customers in the music streaming industry. I believe it will be a piece of cake for Facebook to be a leading competitor with all the veterans and rookies in the field. This is because, in my opinion, Facebook is one of the most popular social media apps used around the world.

If this rumor turns out to be true, streaming services will have even more competition. I believe maybe it could one day have enough revenue to top Spotify because of the amount of people who use Facebook, however, Facebook's brand is for social media, not streaming music, and that may hinder it's success. The source seems to be credible.

Facebook fading: where will musicians migrate now? - DIY Musician Blog | Kill The Record Industry | Scoop.it

We have been using Facebook for our band since almost the beginning of time (at least, that’s what it can seem like at some points!)

Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever and I believe that pretty soon we’ll need to say adieu to Facebook and move on to whatever happens to be next. This is not because I am anti-facebook, or anti-social, or any of those anti things. It has just become impractical to use it for what we have been using it for – a means of communication with YOU, the fans.

We carefully built our Facebook fan page up from a collection of personal friends to where it is now, at over 10k followers who have “liked” the page in order to become a fan of our music and receive our updates, videos, photos, and random musings.

Pierre Priot's insight:

Remember this: Facebook is here to make money, not friends.
