Just over a week ago, Shazam updated the free version of its mobile apps for iOS and Android so that users in the UK (and Germany, Mexico and Brazil, as it happens) could now open and play tracks that have been identified and ‘tagged’ by the app, in music streaming service Deezer.

Almost half of all Britons listened to illegally downloaded music last month, according to a new survey by music streaming serviceBloom.fm – and 84% of those questioned said that £120 a year for a premium streaming subscription (the typical cost charged by services such as Spotify and Deezer) is too expensive.

If streaming saved Sweden from a precipitous sales oblivion, why isn't the same thing happening in other countries?  Here's one reason: streaming just isn't as big or important in other countries, and is less a percentage of broader digital consumption.

If streaming is eating the download in Sweden + France, it fails to do so in bigger markets, leaving room for future US/worldwide players (such as iTunes Match).

That's right. The end of music downloads. Axel, some may think you're only fooling yourself, but you could actually be right. At least, the end of downloads for MOR music may occur soon. 
But educated music lovers are keepers: vinyl diggers, mp3 storage maniacs... music download will remain an elite thing.
