Ready to Learn? The Key Is Listening With Intention

Ready to Learn? The Key Is Listening With Intention | Keepamericaheard | Scoop.it

Research on how we learn a second language demonstrates that effective listening involves more than simply hearing the words that float past our ears. Rather, it’s an active process of interpreting information and making meaning. Studies of skilled language learners have identified specific listening strategies that lead to superior comprehension. What’s more, research has shown that learners who deliberately adopt these strategies become better listeners.

Some useful tips to remind ourselves and our students about.

Ruth Obadia's curator insight, October 31, 2013 12:36 PM

We derive the most benefit from observation when we have in mind the conscious intention to carry out the action ourselves. In a 2006 study published in the Journal of Neuroscience, psychologist Scott Frey of the University of Oregon scanned the brains of participants as they watched videos of someone putting together and taking apart a toy made of several parts. One group of subjects simply watched the demonstration; another group was aware that they would be asked to reproduce the actions they viewed on the video.

When I read last week that as many as 30,000 deaths a year in Britain could be caused by smoking cannabis, I reacted in a most uncustomary way for a mild-mannered scientist. I was infuriated. As someone acknowledged throughout the world as a specialist in how drugs affect the brain, I know a great deal about cannabis, and I know that the facts are not there to stand up such an outrageous statement.

Technologically enhanced basic income as a solution to technological unemployment

The ideas presented in this paper developed in response to help resolve some of the problems which will result from technological unemployment. We believe that as machines become more intelligent and work currently done by human beings become automated there will be a sharp increase in the unemployment rate as humans are laid off to be replaced by intelligent machines.

We believe that intelligent machines can be leveraged to provide a basic dividend to a decentralized pseudo-anonymous group of owners as a means of providing an axillary safety-net which cannot be shut down by any government or corporation.

How Typography Affects ConversionsConversions | Quick Sprout | Keepamericaheard | Scoop.it

When you think about conversion optimization, what comes to mind? Testing colors, call-to-action buttons, headlines, and other elements including text, right?

Although those elements do affect conversions, what about other design aspects such as typography?

I know what you are thinking. How the heck does typography affect conversions? Well, certain font types will affect people’s decisions in different ways. For example, if you are trying to get your users to agree with a passage, they are more likely to do so if you use the font type Baskerville....

Why Your Business Needs A Social Media Presence - Two infographics - WordPress Hosting SEO Cloud

Why Your Business Needs A Social Media Presence - Two infographics - WordPress Hosting SEO Cloud | Keepamericaheard | Scoop.it

Why Your Business Needs A Business Social Media Presence. Online consumers are more likely to buy things from brands they know or have followed through social media for some time.

An infographic published by Mr. Youth, a word of mouth marketing firm, polled 4500 adults to uncover the impact of social media on purchases. They discovered that social media not only influences brand reputation and PR, but often can lead directly to a sale.

Over 90% of respondents either received or made recommendations to friends and families on Facebook. 65% of these social recommendations directly led to a purchase. On top of that, 80% of those who received a response to a social media post by a brand made a purchase as a result of that interaction.

With numbers as striking you’d think businesses would be quick to comprehend. Yet according to the study, brands only respond to half of their social media posts, divided almost equally between Facebook and Twitter. The full report will be available in two weeks....

Pallab Kakoti's curator insight, March 14, 8:19 AM

#SocialMedia marketing is the lifeline for brands looking to target the online audience for anything from product promos, launch campaigns & many more parallels by leveraging objective, reach & impact. The key is in the analysis to determine the campaign ROI and keeping these dynamics in mind, a business website is the digital connection that businesses must incorporate to nullify reservations about a product purchase by referring to online reviews, product demos, customer experiences and so on.

Work of Mouth marketing is still one of the most influential catalyst that incites intent to check out a new product or brand based on references. A business website is the connection required to establish  a working relationship between the buyer & the seller. By integrating #social sharing icons & buttons, the process to recommend services to friends & family becomes much easier and simpler to complete. This irrevocably creates the influence of digital marketing & social media marketing for brands with instant real time reach & interaction with buyers & random online visitors across the fabric of the web.
