'Palpable Bitchery': What Exactly Is Stephen King Saying About Dylan Farrow?

'Palpable Bitchery': What Exactly Is Stephen King Saying About Dylan Farrow? | Communications Major | Scoop.it

Stephen King is the latest celeb-Tweeter to get into hot water with the Twitterverse for a 140-character (or less) observation about a current topic. King, who has only been using the micro-blogging platform for 2 months, seems to have stepped onto the wrong side of the Dylan Farrow-Woody Allen child sex abuse firestorm.

When Facebook first launched 10 years ago—back when it was still called “Thefacebook”—there were no timelines, no videos, no notes, no “likes,” and there was no News Feed. In fact, there really wasn’t much to do except look at other people’s profiles. And you could poke people. Or, perhaps even...

TV Soap Operas Back Away From the Edge, Thriving Again | Communications Major | Scoop.it

It’s a back-from-the-dead plot twist worthy of a soap opera. While only a few years ago the daytime drama was an endangered species, four long-time soaps are thriving with better story lines and increased viewers. Social media "has been really instrumental in drumming up the excitement among the fans instantly and creating a more expansive and really fun way to enjoy the shows as part of a community.”

I Will See My Parents 252 Times Before They Die — How About You?

I Will See My Parents 252 Times Before They Die — How About You? | Communications Major | Scoop.it

The writer of this "don't-work-too-mich" piece makes the usual good points about stopping to smell the roses. But he also references a little online tool called "See Your Folks" that calculates how many more visits (approximately) you'll get with your folks. Doesn't work if your parents (like mine) have already exceeded their life expectancy -- or maybe it does. Purchasing airline ticket now!

What if you are from the generation that "never loses touch" with its past? As Facebook turns 10, we are reminded that it was initally lauched to college students - and then high school students. For those of us who have used the service to reconnect with our pasts, here's an interesting take on never having the experience to naturally drift away. For a generation coming of age on the social network, their only way to cut ties has been to sever them with the "unfriend" button.

Study: 73% of U.S. Teens Still Use Facebook | Communications Major | Scoop.it

Facebook turns 10 years old this week. Expect there to be several studies on the the world's largest social networking site. In addition to this study finding that most teens still use Facebook (various reports repeatedly try to indicate those in the 12- to 17-year-old group are drifting away from the site), other findings include average number of friends, differences in how men and women use the site, and that many so-called "non-users" (those without their own account) live with someone with an account and use that account to follow friends and family.

Flipping the Switches on Facebook’s Privacy Controls: You Have More Power Than You Think

Flipping the Switches on Facebook’s Privacy Controls: You Have More Power Than You Think | Communications Major | Scoop.it

In practice, adjusting Facebook’s dozens of privacy controls can be tedious and confusing. Company executives realize that the complexity is a concern. Facebook has compiled answers to 50 frequently asked questions about privacy, offers tips at a central site and has a community forum where users try to help one another. Over the last couple of years, Facebook has also altered the service to put relevant privacy controls next to each piece of information you are sharing.

In theory, you have a great deal of control over the audience for everything you put on the service, whether it is the photos of your family vacation or that moment of weakness when you passed along that Krispy Kreme doughnut ad. (Uh, I hid that from my timeline, right?)

Facebook Hits Back at Princeton User Loss “Research”

Facebook Hits Back at Princeton User Loss “Research” | Communications Major | Scoop.it

A Facebook data scientist has laughed off recent research by Princeton University which claimed that the social network giant would lose 80% of its users in the next few years. According to the model the Princeton researchers used, Princeton University would be extinct by the end of the decade and our entire planet will vanish by 2060. That last prediction is based on declining searches for the word "air" on Google.

What's the problem with Facebook's news feed (this month)? The Facebook news feed continues to be a more challenging place to get your content displayed.
