Social Media Transforms Dialog in Gaza-Israel Conflict | What People Are Talking About Online | Scoop.it

In a clash of narratives, officials from both Israel and Gaza advise supporters on the language and images that should be used on social media platforms.

Social media has put the propaganda war on steroids.

Said one official, “You’re seeing anger and frustration, you’re seeing sorrow and empathy, and you’re also seeing a wide currency of videos, photos, infographics, emergent hashtags, memes..."

Fried Chicken Oreos Not Real, Internet Still Excited | What People Are Talking About Online | Scoop.it

One of the better Internet hoaxes in a while. This Photoshop mashup got junk food aficionados overexcited this week at the possibility of cookies that could be sweet, salty and creamy at the same time. Turns out there is so no such product on the market...yet.

Why Does the Internet Want the 'Texas Cheerleader Hunter' Dead? | What People Are Talking About Online | Scoop.it

On the Internet, women are the most dangerous game. Consider this: an attractive, young woman posing next to dead animals arouses more anger than a middle-aged, pot-bellied man doing the same.

Whiny William Shatner's Rants About 'Nobodies' Getting Verified on Twitter

Whiny William Shatner's Rants About 'Nobodies' Getting Verified on Twitter | What People Are Talking About Online | Scoop.it

You know those little blue check marks next to names of Twitter account holders "verifying" for the rest of us that these folks are indeed the real deal? Like has-been TV star and ad pitchman William Shatner? You wouldn't take a tweet from an "unverified" William Shatner seriously, but a "verified" William Shatner? Well, heck, it's like he's speaking directly to you - and only you - through your Twitter feed. Apparently, Shatner thinks the little blue check mark should only be bequeathed to those of his stature (and presumably above). Social media managers be damned.

Apparently Shatner, who has a social media manager himself (according to his Twitter feed), took to firing off his own tweets over the weekend. His social media guy must keep 9-5, M-F hours and be unavailable during downtime for damage control. Which makes those little blue check marks all the more dubious, don't you think?

New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd went to Colorado, where she ate legal edible weed and ended up "curled up in a hallucinatory state for the next eight hours."
