The Mathematics area of study is designed to build a strong foundation in mathematical understanding and procedural skills, as well as to prepare students to meet the standards for 21st Century critical thinking and problem solving. The Mathematics curriculum includes the areas of ratios and proportional relationships, the number system, expressions and equations, geometry, and statistics and probability. The courses are aligned with the Common Core State Standards and designed to cover the equivalent of a year-long, traditional school curriculum.

Jon Star has done some excellent work over the last decade to develop procedural fluency in math classrooms. FluidMath is a relatively new software for math teachers that has recently increased in popularity. It is a powerful tool that can help teachers and students make visual connections between different conceptual topics. Although only a free trial is available at this time, log on and watch tutorials on how to integrate this product into the classroom. Teachers have found that exploring graphs and graphing equations on Fluid Math allows students to discover beyond their grade level, and uncover relationships in mathematics far beyond their years.
