Susan Grigsby @sksgrigsby's insight:

While this isn't directly related to school libraries I had to share it. When I read the article, all I could think about was standing in front of a class full of kids wearing one of these things and staring zombie-like - oh, wait. They don't need this thing to do that

The implications are just a little strange but if this really works, what does it do to the Ritalin market?

Enterey's curator insight, June 2, 2:25 PM

I'm not sure what I "Thync" about this? Although I can appreciate the high level of innovation and creativity, I am a little apprehensive about applying a device just above the side temple of my head that could potentially ALTER my mood. I will have to really breathe this concept in just a bit more before I would think of giving it a try. Hmm....

Susan Grigsby @sksgrigsby's insight:

Excellent article by a principal talking about how important his relationship with the school's TL is. Why? Because she embraced change and became the "go-to" person in technology and very early on saw the potential of transforming the library space into a learning commons. This is how we spread the word, folks.

While primarily geared towards the public libraries, the idea of nostalgia being a "thin reed" for librarians to cling to when advocating the importance of libraries is appropriate for the school library, too.

Susan Grigsby @sksgrigsby's insight:

Why do we still lecture when there are so many viable alternatives? Well, because it's easier than setting up a flipped classroom or changing instructional delivery to a project-based or inquiry-based format. There are some great ideas here that are well worth sharing but be prepared to offer up lots of support to teachers who may be reluctant to dip their toes into new territory.

“Once upon a time, when wishes could still come true…”
Few feats of storytelling have possessed the popular imagination more powerfully or enduringly than the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm.
