Tweet I don’t care. I don’t care whether you are an author, marketer, mom, designer, biz owner or rebel leader – if you want to succeed in today’s environment, you have to be a grrreat storyteller first.

Hey -- it's Friday and we all need a laugh. So here's some Friday Fun :))
I love the Calvin and Hobbs comics. I ran across these today and couldn't stop grinning. OK -- so it's not winter any more but we sure can laugh now about the melted snows, and appreciate the ingenious creativity of these strips.
Who knows -- maybe some of this out-of-the box thinking will rub off on our us and we'll approach our work with stories in new ways.
In any event, have fun!

Here are three powerful reasons why using humor attracts customers and helps communication.
This is just a quick post with a powerful message -- don't leave home without your sense of humor!
What I appreciate about this article is the reminder to add humor to the business stories you share in your marketing and branding. Because, as the article says, it attracts customers, establishes rapport, and creates alignment. And it makes us smile!
All Is Fair In Business A shopkeeper was dismayed when a brand new business much like his own opened up next door and erected a huge sign which read 'BEST DEALS.' He was horrified when another competitor opened up on his right, and announced its arrival with an even larger sign, reading 'LOWEST PRICES.' The shopkeeper panicked, until he got an idea. He put the biggest sign of all over his own shop. It read: 'MAIN ENTRANCE'
See? Now go have more fun :)

As you look through this list, see what applies to your life or what you want to apply. Write your own list of mantras. Whatever you do, make a list (short or long) of your goals and aspirations. Every so often read, revise, and contemplate...
What a great list! And one I'll be keeping handy. Add your own reminders. Enjoy.

Do your stories need a facelift for 2012? Then consider the trick Old Spice used -- re-telling its old stories through humor and parody. Could be a lot of fun and a great way to kick-off your 2012 marketing.
It might not work for everyone, but take a lesson from the Proctor & Gamble playbook on how to reconfigure your tired old stories into new gems. Read the author's sage advice, and watch the current Old Spice for some chuckles (and ideas!).

I want you to stop what you are doing and think for a moment... Are you having any fun with your social media marketing? Have you noticed that most of the social media content from blogs, YouTube, ... Is this article about storytelling? ABSOLUTELY! Does this article mention storytelling? NO. But go read it anyway because it has definite words of wisdom for those working with business stories. A week or so ago (oh heavesn, how time flies -- it could have been 2 weeks ago!) I curated a must see video by Bobette Buster (The Arc of Storytelling by Bobette Buster) on the power of the transformative arc in business stories. Sometimes those stories can have some heavier parts to them. This article is a reminder for us to add humorous stories -- or humor -- to our mix of business narratives. The author shows us how we can quickly and easy do this. So keep things light and go have fun sharing your stories!

Yesterday, I was drawn in again by a street person’s story. It is not the first time. If the story is good enough, it tugs on your heartstrings. While, as a brand marketer, I am always leery of being taken... LOL -- all you need to do is read the cartoon -- it says it all about what NOT to do when creating your brand stories :)

It's Friday and time for fun!
LOL -- I found this originally on Pinterest but when I went to click through to the original file, it led to a dead-end.
Since I could not find the original, I recreated it and included the URL to the original collection: https://plus.google.com/107611420709201726294/posts
Every time I read it, it brings a smile to my face. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

OK -- there's a whole lot of storytelling going on here that is really cool!
I checked out some of these websites and listened to the stories. I agree with the author -- these companies are getting it right.
What I like about the ones I checked out is that these stories are not blatent 'buy our product' pieces. Instead they are interesting, inspiring, or creative stories about others.
Enjoy exploring how these different companies are using stories differently. There is some good inspiration here to start 2013 off right!
