Games to Ignite Brains - IPAD 4 SCHOOLS

Games to Ignite Brains - IPAD 4 SCHOOLS | Junior classroom | Scoop.it
“ The other day, I noticed one of my daughters playing a puzzle type game on my iPad. It was obviously challenging and often frustrating but she kept at it regardless. The game was direct problem solving and my girl was deeply engaged. It was then I had an idea. If any learner who found themselves disengaged from a school task had permission to select from a list of problem-solving, “brain igniting” games, it might mean they return to the task more energised to tackle it or suggest other solutions.”

"This week I worked with the Kindergarten classes to help the teachers integrate technology and math with their students. In Kindergarten, the students are typically using the iPads with content based apps to practice letter recognition, writing, and basic math, but I wanted the students to use the iPad as a creation tool just like the older students do in my schools."

Arizona State University, Claire McLaughlin's curator insight, January 1, 2015 6:53 PM

To be honest, I had never heard of the World Digital Library until I read this article.  What an interesting collection of cultural works.  I especially liked the Time Line feature at the top of the page as well as several of the items under Explore.  This resource could be useful in secondary level social studies and foreign language classes to name a few.

Study Claims iPad Helps Rise in Literacy for Kindergarteners | The Committed Sardine

Study Claims iPad Helps Rise in Literacy for Kindergarteners | The Committed Sardine | Junior classroom | Scoop.it
A study conducted in Auburn, Maine suggests that the iPad may be able to improve literacy rates among kindergarten students, notes The Loop. The Auburn School Department recently assigned iPads to half of the district's 16 kindergarten classes for a period of nine weeks. This translated into 129 students being taught with iPads, and 137 without; to gauge results, all of the students were tested before and after the trial.
