This LibGuide explores the following themes: 1. causes and effects of conflict in a multi-ethnic society (case studies of Northern Ireland and Sri Lanka and 2. challenges in resolving ethnic conflicts.
Zachry Ng's insight:

See-Think_Wonder

What do you see?

Singapore needs to implement many rules in order to ensure there is racial and religious harmony in the country.

What makes you think about that?

Singapore needs to maintain harmony in the country as the country is so small that any small conflict will soon reach the ears of everyone in the country. That would trigger a lot of tension between different races or religions, which could pull the country down. Maintaining peace and harmony can also increase tourism.

What does it make you wonder?

Which other countries are multi-ethnic?

What are those countries doing to maintain racial harmony?

Thinesh Kannan's curator insight, July 1, 2013 6:32 AM

Singapore is a country with a multi-ethnic society and therefore it is vital for Singapore to maintain racial harmony. Singapore has set up many different programmes to ensure everyone enjoys societal harmony. One example in which is the "bilingualism policy where students learn English and their own Mother Tongue". I think that this is good as it ensures that everyone lives in harmony. Also, these policies are reviewed periodically and tweaked to ensure they meet the current and future needs of the population.

Gautam's curator insight, July 2, 2013 9:27 AM

I think that Singapore is a country with multi-ethnic society and thus it is important for them to mantain racial harmony. Or there will be many racial riots, and many lives would be lost.

Wu Weiyang's curator insight, July 3, 2013 11:53 AM

I see that the Singapore government has implemented many policies and programmes to maintain the racial cohesion in Singapore. They have truly considered all aspects of race and religion and that is the key to our harmonious society now. I think that it is important that we do not have racial riots in Singapore because that would disrupt the peaceful lives of people and reflect badly on Singapore. Our economic will also be affected. The racial riots will lead to nothing, except lives lost and broken families. I wonder what will happen if such policies and programmes are not implemented.

Realizing Your Dreams and Goals

Realizing our dreams and accomplishing our goals can happen much faster if we employ these 3 important keys.
Zachry Ng's insight:

See-Think-Wonder

What do you see?

We need total clarity, then take action and finally attract the dream to you.

What makes you think about that?

You need to do a lot of thinking in order to achieve your dreams. You have to be decisive and must know exactly what you want to be in the future. However, just wishful thinking will not work. You have to take action and do what you need in order to achieve your goal in life.

What does it make you wonder?

How did the writer know that these would work?

Why did the writer want to write this?
