The Evolution of Permission Marketing: What You Need to Succeed in 2013

The Evolution of Permission Marketing: What You Need to Succeed in 2013 | JuliaDavis | Scoop.it

... You can’t force anyone to pay attention to you online. All you can do is entice.Permission Marketing was an expanded observation of that fact, and an exploration of an alternative. Instead of trying to gain attention by being increasingly obnoxious, we can earn a prospect’s permission to deliver a message to them. This calls for a whole new tool kit. If people are going to ask you to communicate with them, you have to come up with a form of marketing that’s too valuable to throw away. Advertising copy gives way to content — informative, interesting material that speaks to a highly informed customer....

I disagree Jane. It would be great if everything were able to be accessible to everyone, but that is simply not the reality. We can't homogenise visual art into an accessible form, simply because some people can't see the fine details. That would be as wrong as never considering visually impaired persons, for example.

Getting the Most out of Desk Space

Why desk space is important for an optimal workspace

Via infozone
more...
infozone's curator insight, June 12, 2013 11:29 PM

The ideal amount of desk space should always be more than enough. Luckily, there are a lot of ways and products that can be utilized to make any office more spacious.

The first step in organizing an office space is to gather up and discard all clutter. This includes old invoices and other paper documents. Anything that isn’t needed in the next few days should be filed or thrown away. This prevents things from constantly piling up. Old information should be trashed as soon as it becomes irrelevant.

Even if the entirety of your desk space is rather meager, you can take a page from Lifehacker and utilize all your available room as a sort of “cockpit.” This means that everything that is relevant to the task at hand should be within easy reach. Having to grope over documents or folders can create even more of a mess. As such, having a good system of filing makes paper documents seem neater and organized, even if the desk isn’t. Limiting décor to only a few pieces will go a long way in accessibility, rather than having a dozen pictures and other novelty items. While they work to provide relaxation, they should not take up a majority of the desk space.

http://lifehacker.com/5931103/how-can-i-make-the-most-of-my-meager-desk-space

A keyboard tray works to remove the typing mechanism from sight when not in use. It is placed underneath the desk using a pull-out mechanism and some screws. This enables the keyboard to be suspended in space without taking up anything that is actually on the desk. It provides smooth lines and a clean profile for even a small office space. Hiding anything that isn’t always in use is a good way to keep things accessible. The mouse can also be placed with the keyboard, giving the user even more room to place important documents and computer monitors on the desk, rather than having a dedicated space simply for computer interface peripherals.

Instead of simply using the actual desk area, it is advisable to utilize the space under and around the desk. Boxes or file folders can be placed underneath the desk outside of the foot room area for ease of access as well as hiding large storage compartments. Storage boxes should be no-frills and have a decent amount of space for the size. Going with a deeper rather than longer box can save space in tighter areas of storage. Keeping files in an expandable binder will ensure that the maximum amount of space is being saved during organization.

Hiding cables for the office works the same as anywhere else. Getting creative with cord solutions means using paper clips or clothes pins to wrangle unsightly wires. Color coordinating various inputs works wonders in finding the correct type of cord. As well as this, a simple tag for a group of wires can make it simple to find the system or origin. All this organization will save time when rearranging the room or desk space.

Smarter Engagement: Bypass Biases in Social Media – Think Insights – Google

Smarter Engagement: Bypass Biases in Social Media – Think Insights – Google | JuliaDavis | Scoop.it
Brands use social media to engage and deepen relationships with consumers. But Wharton School’s Pinar Yildirim warns of the risk in sensational content and minority opinions when it comes to user-generated content (UGC).

Digest...

We know it’s good to engage your customers. It’s not true, however, that any engagement is good engagement. Brands should not have blind faith in high numbers. Instead, media managers’ goal should be meaningful interactions that deepen relationships with their best customers.

The right metrics in social media are crucial, but interpretation is just as important and this is where I’m going to focus. When it comes to social media content, there are two tendencies to be wary of — sensationalism and extreme opinions.

So, my first piece of advice for managers is: do not to fall into the sensationalism trap and be careful how you interpret social media. Emotional, controversial, or exaggerated messaging might attract attention — and even boost your social media fans or followers’ number in the short term — but are people really buying into your brand? Moreover, could it be harmful in the long term? If brand-related content is going to chime in on the topic of the moment, make sure it does so in a way that ties back to your brand and what it stands for.

This brings us to my second piece of advice. When social media’s most active users are consumers with polarized opinions, managers must carefully interpret the data they gather from it. It can be detrimental when companies – and big data analysts – treat the opinions of a small, and possibly polarized, vocal group as representing the opinions of the rest.

iNeoMarketing's curator insight, June 4, 2013 9:26 AM

Dr. Yildirim is spot-on: we can all get excited about the minority opinion, be it good or bad. That's the void you risk falling into without proper metrics in place. Stay away from the most vocal and stick with the fundamentals.

LTE, smartphones & video are adding up to a mobile data boom | JuliaDavis | Scoop.it

The world of mobile is getting faster and faster, and that means more LTE everywhere. It also means less talking, more Facebook and, of course, more video.

The bottom line — we are only just getting started. Some data points from Ericsson’s mobility report. We all must love watching video on the go, or else why would Ericsson say that video traffic is growing on the mobile networks by 60 percent annually. Ericsson, which released a new mobility report this morning, says that we will continue to see this trend as more people start to use smartphones and use them for everything.... It all adds up to powerful marketing potential...
