Just under three in four (72%) UK HR directors (HRDs) are concerned by losing top performers in their companies over the coming year, compared to a much lower 52% in Continental Europe and 50% in Asia.

This is according to a survey of 1,800 HR directors across the UK, Europe and Asia conducted by admin, secretarial and office recruiter OfficeTeam.

Jobless rate down to 7.9% as number of people out of work falls 50,000 to 2.528 million, the ONS says. Hopes that Britain's economy is starting to recover from recession were boosted by a surprise fall in unemployment to its lowest rate since June 2011 while the number of people in work hit the highest level ever recorded.

Women are being encouraged to take out life insurance before December 21, over fears that an EU gender directive may act to push up premiums.

Life insurance has traditionally been cheaper for women because of their longer rates of life expectancy, but the new directive will mean that insurers can no longer take gender into account when calculating premiums.

Luxury brands are upping their spend on digital media in 2012, according to a new report. While most brand marketers and agencies believe that digital marketing is more effective than TV for driving online sales.

Some 43% of those interviewed said their luxury clients were moving more quickly towards digital advertising than mass market brands, with another third saying they were keeping pace with mass market brands. Three in four of those quizzed expected their luxury clients’ digital budgets would increase. Some 48% said growth would top 10%, 77% predicted growth of more than one percent, and 18% put future growth of 20% or more.
