Modern streetcars are daily transporting passengers in cities around the world from Portland to Prague to Jerusalem and our nation's capital can't get right its first working tram in more than 50 years. The H Street NE streetcar might never open. This is beyond pathetic.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today introduced far-reaching legislation to rebuild America’s crumbling network of roads, bridges and transit systems and other infrastructure projects. The five-year plan would invest $1 trillion and create or maintain at least 13 million decent-paying jobs, said Sanders, the Senate Budget Committee ranking member.

Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has introduced the Rebuild America Act -- a massive infrastructure program that would invest $1 trillion over five years to create or maintain at least 13 million jobs repairing crumbling bridges and roads, expanding high-speed Internet, and increasing access to clean energy. The legislation would also target investments in transit, passenger and freight rail, water infrastructure, marine ports and inland waterways.

Israeli media is reporting that a nature reserve has been flooded and more than 80 people have been hospitalized due to the spill.

Awful. Massive 600,000 gallon oil spill in Israel's Evrona Nature Reserve threatens people and animals with toxic fumes and is contaminating the land. This is another reason why I'm against the Keystone XL pipeline. We need to rapidly transition to renewables. There are no solar and wind spills.

It's great to see ‪solar‬ energy in the United States start to soar. The American solar industry is creating jobs nearly 20 times faster than the overall U.S. economy, according to The Solar Foundation's National Solar Jobs Census. It puts into perspective the measly 35 permanent jobs the Keystone XL pipeline would generate. Also, solar does not emit any climate change-causing greenhouse gas emissions, whereas a staggering 1.37 billion metric tons of additional greenhouse gases will be released if Keystone XL goes ahead, according to the EPA.

2014 was the Earth's warmest year since 1880, according to NASA and NOAA scientists. Dr. Gavin Schmidt, director of NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies: "Carbon dioxide levels are increasing because we're taking carbon out of the ground mainly as coal, oil and natural gas and we're burning it and when you burn carbon you produce carbon dioxide which contributes to the climate's greenhouse effect and as we continue to increase that we're going to continue to see warming and more records being broken. Not every year but on a pretty regular basis."
