Unpaid internship 'a defining point in my life'

Unpaid internship 'a defining point in my life' | Job Search | Scoop.it
With limited on-the-job training opportunities available through postsecondary institutions, and in a highly competitive job market – where 13.3 per cent of young Canadians are out of work, according to Statistics Canada – recent grads like Mr. Thompson see unpaid internships as one of the few opportunities to gain practical work experience in a startup environment
Sprott Careers's insight:

Unpaid internships get a bad rap, some for good reasons.  The Ontario government has been clamping down on the unpaid practice.  Here's an article that speaks to the proper use of the unpaid internship.  Sprott grad, Nigel Kay of Local Trades is quoted - he has 'hired' several students into unpaid internship opportunities with positive results.

How To Answer The ‘Tell Me About Yourself’ Question | CAREEREALISM | Job Search | Scoop.it
The interview question most people say they have the hardest time answering is “Tell me about yourself.” Here's what you should say to your interviewer.
Sprott Careers's insight:

We think this is such an important interview question, we ask all first year business students to answer it in the mini mock interviews we run with 400+ Intro to Business students. We break the answer into 3 categories - tell me what you are studying (with a possible career focus - not many have a real focus in first year), tell me something high level about where you have worked or volunteered, and tell me something interesting about yourself (hobbies, sports, travel, etc). With a little preparation, students do an excellent job with this question.
