Jewish Teens from around the world to complete high school studies in Israel
Naale Elite-Academy UK's insight:
For more than 20 years, Naale Elite Academy has been bringing Jewish Teens from around the world to complete their high school studies in Israel. With over 13,000 graduates of which 95% holding an Israeli Matriculation Certificate – Naale is with no doubt a success story.
As Jewish educators we are all committed to nurture a connection to Israel and by doing so we strengthen the Jewish identity of our youth. This is where Naale unique program can help families and students either to fulfill a dream of studying in Israel or to strengthen their Jewish education.
Students who have successfully completed 8th or 9th grade can apply
The academic program is run in conjunction with Israel's Ministry of Education, The Jewish Agency and is fully funded! Families can choose from the program's affiliated religious or non-religious boarding schools (Yeshivat Shaalvim; Ulpanat Amana; Beit Chana Chabad HS and Mosenson Youth Village.
Every student that is accepted receive a package of benefits but maybe more importantly is the unique experience as one of Naale students said: "This is once in a lifetime opportunity…It really helps you for your future – getting to know yourself better, gaining self confidence, learning about Israel and your culture as Jews."
Please share this information with families and colleagues so they will be aware of this amazing opportunity and see if it's right for them. I will be happy to attend a school event, a parent-student assembly or a community event in order to personally present the program and answer questions
High school students from the Diaspora make Israel their home
By Darryl Egnal
A popular and different challenge
Anat Goodman has been the Naale representative in the UK since April 2013. She has worked hard to increase the numbers of students applying for the Naale Elite Academy programme and this year, six students began 10th grade at Naale.
“I believe there are more students from the UK than before because parents of prospective students are hearing more and more positive comments about Naale from very happy and successful students and their parents,” she says. “Students who have friends at Naale want to find out more about it and when they hear what an amazing programme it is, they do everything they can to get in.
“Jewish teenagers feel that Israel offers them a place where they can truly live up to their Jewish identity, which is one of the main reasons they want to finish school there. They know they’ll meet Israelis and other students from all over the world, travel around the country, and get an incredibly good education,” Goodman says.
“In addition, once they finish school, they are entitled to a free university education in top universities such as the Technion in Haifa and Hebrew University in Jerusalem, but if they decide to leave once they finish, their Israeli matriculation certificate will get them into any university in the world.”
The Naale Elite Academy from the Israeli Ministry of Education is a life-changing, all-expenses paid high school experience for Jewish teenagers from the Diaspora. As relevant as ever, the program is continuing to expand with exciting new initiatives / Darryl Egnal
A boarding school experience with a difference, Naale Elite Academy enables young Jews to complete their last three years of high school, with an option for four years, at an exclusive, top quality academy while learning to be independent, self-sufficient and resilient - in the international melting pot that is Israel. Naale currently has 16 schools for Russian speakers and six schools that cater to English speakers from Western countries, ranging across the religious spectrum from secular to religious. Co-funded by the State of Israel (the Israeli Ministry of Education) and the Jewish Agency for Israel, the success of the program was summed up by late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin when he said: “There is no more noble enterprise than Naale.”
A unique experience- Every Naale scholarship comprises full airfare for the flight to school at the beginning of the 10th grade year, full room and board, free tuition, off-campus travel expenses, special trips in Israel, a budget for maintaining telephone contact with family, a monthly allowance, uniform, school clubs etc . There is also an option of two to three years free tuition at an Israeli university, before or after the army.
Potential students have to go through a series of interviews. Besides the interviews, two tests are required before accepting candidates – one to determine their academic level in Math and English, and a second to determine their maturity (and thus their ability to live away from home), which requires psychological testing. All non-Israeli students are admitted to the country on an extended tourist’s visa and need not make an aliyah commitment of any kind. Students can, however, choose to make aliyah when they reach the appropriate age.
I am turning to you about Jewish education. I am sure that there is no need to elaborate of how important this is for the future of the Jewish people. At the same time there is a serious problem today with the cost of getting such an education, especially since in many Jewish families there are several children, and the overall cost of tuition is too high for many families. In many cases, the parents have no option than to send several of their children to public school.
The Israeli government has recognized the vital need that every Jewish youngster receives a good and sound Jewish education. Therefore I wish to bring to your attention of a program called "Naale"- Elite Academy. The program gives free high school in Israel for grades 10-12, including tuition, boarding, full dormitory services, schoolbooks, a monthly allowance and airfare for the beginning of the program and return at the end, with no strings attached!
For your students, the relevant programs are- Yeshivat Shaalavim for modern orthodox boys and Ulpanat Amana in Kfar Saba for modern orthodox girls. These are among the best Yeshiva high schools in Israel today.
There also exist programs at Beit Hana in Tzfat for girls from Habad families and the Mosenson School which offers a secular Jewish education.
The program in 10th grade is mostly Ulpan- studying Hebrew language skills. Instruction in 11th & 12th grade will be in Hebrew and at the end they will get an Israeli High School Diploma (bagrut).
We are not competing with the Jewish High Schools in the community. I am asking that you refer to us your graduates that you know that will not be continuing to a Jewish High School.
