Pence makes surprise visit to vandalized Jewish cemetery

Pence makes surprise visit to vandalized Jewish cemetery | Jewish Education Around the World | Scoop.it

Vice President Pence on Wednesday made a surprise visit to a historic Jewish cemetery near St. Louis to condemn the recent vandalism that took place there.

“From the heart, there is no place in America for hatred or acts of prejudice or violence or anti-Semitism,” he said.

Pence called Missouri’s response to the incident “inspiring" while standing next to Eric Greitens (R), the state’s first Jewish governor.

Pence decried the vandalism as “a sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil” during a speech earlier Wednesday in St. Louis.
After his remarks at the cemetery, the vice president and the governor listened to a prayer from a rabbi and then cleared brush with volunteers taking part in a beautification project.

Google Slides: Can We Now Call It A Video Editor? By Jeffrey Bradbury

Google Slides: Can We Now Call It A Video Editor? By Jeffrey Bradbury | Jewish Education Around the World | Scoop.it

Are you looking to find the perfect video editor to use with your students? As shared last week on TeacherCast, Google recently added a pretty awesome feature in Google Slides that now allows users to create slide decks using videos stored in their Google Drives. As if that feature isn't a total game changer, users can now have additional options when working with video. By right clicking (or double tapping) on the video box, you can open up a new Video Options panel that allows you to edit and trim the video to a desired size.

The-Wellbeing-of-Learners-and-Teachers-March-2017 | Jewish Education Around the World | Scoop.it
Education systems worldwide have accepted the fact that a clear, positive correlation exists between students' wellbeing and the quality of their learning, satisfaction, and academic achievements. In parallel, a positive correlation has been found between the wellbeing of educators in educational institutions and the quality of their teaching and their feeling of professional satisfaction.
The theoretical and practical aspects associated with the bolstering and enhancement of the wellbeing of all partners in the educational institutions will be presented during this online seminar.
The seminar is a collaborative initiative of The MOFET Institute and the Research and Development group (RDC) in Teacher Psychologies of the Association for Teacher Education in Europe (ATEE).

Since embarking upon my own journey with Masa, I have sought to understand how the Masa team and its partners can better work together to fulfill this monumental educational mission, particularly within the context of our fast-paced, complex and globalized world and the challenges it presents for us and our participants both as individuals and as a people. In order to fulfill this mission, over the last two years, Masa’s organizational leadership has consulted with our diverse community of stakeholders in Israel and from around the world and as a result of this process we are implementing a new set of pedagogies and core principles, diverse professional learning opportunities and an evaluation process that will better serve our participants.

Reflections on the Current Debate on Women’s Professional Spiritual Leadership

Reflections on the Current Debate on Women’s Professional Spiritual Leadership | Jewish Education Around the World | Scoop.it
During the past two weeks, the policy statement issued by the Orthodox Union on the role of women in spiritual leadership in the Orthodox community has generated much discussion and debate. We note in introduction that we have great regard and esteem for the leadership of the OU, its commitment to the Jewish people and the amazing work they do on behalf of us all.  Moreover, we deeply respect the learning and sincerity of the panel of roshei yeshiva and synagogue rabbis on the rabbinic panel created by the OU. A number of them are cherished teachers and mentors, some are good friends and colleagues, and some are even students from past decades. At the same time, we feel it important to share reflections on the statement, its genesis and its implications.

These Jewish summer camps are proud to be basic | Jewish Education Around the World | Scoop.it
At a time when many Jewish summer camps are spending millions to build everything from gymnasiums to trapezes to pool halls, a handful of Jewish summer camps have eschewed the pricey bells and whistles, focusing instead on the traditional homespun pleasures of, well, camp. Some have passed on fancy upgrades as a matter of principle, or because they don’t comport with the camp’s particular emphasis.

The Revival of British Jewry

The Revival of British Jewry | Jewish Education Around the World | Scoop.it
This essay, however, argues that the vibrancy of a community should not be judged by the threats that it faces. While threats and danger form an existential part of Jewish life, they do not necessarily determine the strength or weakness of a particular community. It is important that a community understands the nature of such threats and can organize to overcome them successfully. In doing so, the Jewish community in the U.K. provides evidence that it is vibrant and undergoing a revival. This study focuses on four aspects that show the revival of British Jewish life: demography; religious identity; educational and cultural activity; and confronting antisemitism.
