The Evolution of Retail: What Brands Need to Know [Infographic]

The Evolution of Retail: What Brands Need to Know [Infographic] | IT Sales World | Scoop.it

The retail environment is changing faster than many brands realise. The evolution of retail is developing and brands need to embrace these new trends.

Back at the turn-of-the-century (I just love saying that) I was in retail management. Dance music retail to be specific. The stores that I ran pioneered cutting edge dance music and thanks to DJ culture, good old analogue 12” vinyl was actually experiencing sales and usage growth. Oh, how quickly things can change. It was around that same time that iTunes launched and changed the way that we purchase, manage and play our music forever. That was one of the first signs of the evolution of retail.

Fast forward 14 years and that sector of retail has changed so radically that now DJ’s can purchase music live on their smartphone in the middle of a playing a gig. According to data from Baynote the retail industry is forecast to experience more change over the course of the next five years than it has during the past one hundred years. News Corp CTO Tom Quinnrecently told CeBIT attendees that consumers are now innovating faster than businesses. Dynamic brands are capitalising on some emerging retail trends, however businesses that ignore the evolution of retail could be left behind.

6 Myths of Social Sharing (infographic)

6 Myths of Social Sharing (infographic) | IT Sales World | Scoop.it

Social sharing buttons on websites account for less than 30 percent of all sharing, and links shared on Thursday get peak engagement and the longest-lasting traffic.

Those are only two of the results of a RadiumOne study focusing on sharing behavior. RadiumOne is an enterprise advertising platform that operates the Po.st social sharing and URL-shortening platform — which naturally generates a lot of data on what people share, how they share, and what kind of sharing is the most effective.

Google and Ogilvy research finds word of mouth had biggest impact on purchase decisions (not media) | Campaign@Cannes

Google and Ogilvy research finds word of mouth had biggest impact on purchase decisions (not media) | Campaign@Cannes | IT Sales World | Scoop.it

Consumers are more influenced by word of mouth in buying decisions than by print media, TV and movies, brand websites and even social media. The six-month survey of 2,458 recent purchasers of auto vehicles, beauty products and smartphones found that word of mouth topped the influence list.

Top ten points of influence:

Word of mouth (74%)Retailers and store visits (69%)You Tube – how-to videos, product visualisation, entertainment (64%)Twitter (61%)Company/brand websites (59%)Facebook (56%)Pinterest (56%)Newspapers and magazines (55%)TV and movies (51%)Search (51%).

The study – revealed at the Google Beach Pavilion in Cannes – notes that consumers now make purchasing decisions in the same way they consume content – with the purpose of choosing brands that engage their passion and interests....

Constant stress is rough on your family. It’s also terrible for being more creative.

But did you know it’s actually physically bad for your brain as well?

Recent research out of the University of California, Berkeley, offers sobering news for business owners battling chronic stress. The work was done by Daniela Kaufer, a professor of integrative biology, and colleagues. It peered into the brain to look at how being stressed out over a long period of time actually affects the physical structure of the brain.
