Node.Js for .net - Tim Almond

I see from Matt Baxter-Reynolds that node.js has been released for Microsoft’s IIS. I’ve had an occassional glance at node.js as I liked the thinking behind it, but I’m going to take a more serious look.

Gzipping Responses in Node.js + Express App

Gzipping Static Content
My app has a lot of client side data, and they are served using express.static.

gzippo is a drop-in replacement for it, so just install gzippo and use gzippo.staticGzip in place of express.static. It gzips the static data on-the-fly and cache them in memory.

Announcing ThemeRoller for Mobile (beta) | jQuery Mobile

Announcing ThemeRoller for Mobile (beta) | jQuery Mobile | javascript.js | Scoop.it

We’re excited to announce the release of the new ThemeRoller for Mobile tool. ThemeRoller is a web-based tool that makes it super simple to create custom themes without writing a single line of CSS.

If you’re familiar with the jQuery UI ThemeRoller, the basics of the tool are pretty similar: there’s a inspector panel on the left of the screen that has all the theme settings, and a preview pane on the right that shows you in real-time each change you make. But there are some big improvements in the new mobile version which we’ll cover below.

Once you create your masterpiece, you can share it via URL or download a ZIP file with your custom theme stylesheet, ready for production (or additional tweaking).

FLATIRON an unobtrusive framework initiative for node.js

No one agrees on frameworks. It's difficult to get consensus on how much or how little a framework should do. Flatiron's approach is to package simple to use yet full featured components and let developers subtract or add what they want.
Flatiron promotes code organization and sustainability by clearly seperating development concerns. Each component works elegantly with or without its counterparts. Many of the components work the same in the browser as they do on the server.

This is the motivation behind flatiron. At it's core flatiron is two things:

An initiative to build a collection of decoupled tools with the same standard of quality and performance that you would expect from anything built by Nodejitsu.

A full-stack web application development framework which packages these tools together to make isomorphic and stream-based application development easier.

Build the best tools and the best systems will follow.

Dave Pacheco's Blog » Node.js/V8 postmortem debugging

Dave Pacheco's Blog » Node.js/V8 postmortem debugging | javascript.js | Scoop.it

I recently wrote an article for ACM Queue discussing postmortem debugging for dynamic environments. I argued that while native environments for years have provided rich tools for understanding software failures postmortem, most popular dynamic environments have not developed similar facilities, and this gap is becoming more important as these environments grow popular for building complex core components of large distributed systems.

Dan Vega's home on the web: Node.js and you...Node.js is the hottest thing the tech world has had to talk about this year. In case you didn't know, Node.js is a server platform for application development that makes building high-availability APIs and real-time applications really simple. And the best news is that you code for it with JavaScript. In this session, learn what Node.js is and what it means to use a nonblocking infrastructure. We'll talk about why JavaScript is well suited to this kind of environment, and then we'll show how to leverage Node.js to build applications for the browser, mobile, and beyond.

Introducing Flatiron - blog.nodejitsu.com - scaling node.js applications one callback at a time. | javascript.js | Scoop.it

Web development is all about choices. What language do you want to use? What database? What libraries? No matter how you develop web applications these choices have to be made. When using large frameworks in other languages such as Ruby or PHP most of these choices are made for you. In Node.js we have npm, which has allowed a diverse ecosystem of modules to develop. This has fostered a philosophy of creative experimentation, but not made it any easier to make these choices.
This is the motivation behind flatiron. At it's core flatiron is two things:

An initiative to build a collection of decoupled tools with the same standard of quality and performance that you would expect from anything built by Nodejitsu.

Aug - a library to augment or extend your javascript objects | jga.me

If you've used jQuery before, you are probably familiar with the extend function. If you need to be reminded... the gist of it is that you can extend an object with another object. For example, if you had a plugin that had some defaults (delay: 3000, auto: true) and you wanted to allow for developers to override them (delay: 5000), you could take in an options object and combine the two objects (delay: 5000, auto: true). Aug is a tiny (354 bytes) library that will let you do that without jQuery.
