James Meyer, Jasper Johns' Assistant for 25 years, agreed to a plea deal in the theft of 22 Jasper Johns works from Jasper Johns' Sharon, CT Studio. James Meyer faced a prison sentence of 37 - 46 months and received 18 months in jail.

According to a May 8, 2014 lawsuit initiated by Frank Kolodny, the Gallery that sold 22 stolen Johns' was identified as the Fred Dorfman Gallery, New York.
Frank Kolodny is suing defendants James Meyer, former Assistant to Jasper Johns and Fred Dorfman, gallerist and his gallery, Dorfman Projects LLC (collectively, the “Dorfman Defendants”).
The lawsuit indicates Dorfman Gallery realized $6.5 million gross over 6 years; Meyer agreed to forfeit his share of the proceeds, $3.9 million in illegal profits from the scheme
Kolodny claims the defendants falsely represented to prospective buyers, including Kolodny himself, that Meyer received 22 individual pieces created by Jasper Johns as a gift and produced accompanying fraudulent documents.
