I actually didnt know that the united states was the only country that had free speech which is really surprising to me, I think that this creates sort of a riff with other countries. In the U.S, we can say whatever we want unless what we say harms someone or brings danger to the country, while in other countries have laws that prohibit certain topics, such as hate speech or racial hatred. I dont think we should limit free speech; that would cause such an uproar in the streets. Instead i think each of us should be mindful of what we say outloud, when pertaining to someone elses religion, sex, race, etc
this article helps clear up some of the questions that people have been asking towards obamacare, i feel like they could go into more detail, since it just seemed like a general answer when the interview asked a questions
A bus driver for the Burnsville school district was fired last week for leading kids in Christian prayers on his bus, even after he was warned to stop — a move he considers a violation of his freedom of speech...
i think that Mr. Nathaniel was not in the wrong for this. He didnt force the kids to pray with him. in the article it says that he would ask the kids to join him if they wanted to, and if they didnt they could just ignore them. He wasnt forcing his religion on them, and if there had been kids of other religions on the bus, im sure they could have prayed the way they were raised to. I feel like he was doing what he was used to and he shouldnt have had such consequences
i think that the saying seperation of church and state should be upheld, because when religion comes up in government, it gets messy, some people get offended, others dont know how to feel about it and it just causes problems that are unnecessary
the article title is kind of mean, it's not obamas fault so much crap happened this year, it's just been bad luck. So much has made this second term for him hard, and he could have put some things first, such as the immigration problem over the gun restrictions. I think obama is doing all that he can as a president, and he shouldnt feel as if he isnt getting done, things change, especially in a year and things that were important in 2012 get forgotten by bigger and more pressing issues in 2013. His approval rating has been dropping ever since he was elected, especially after syria and snowden
this video really shows how technology is reaching a wider audience, especially the older generation and political world. Twitter has become an outlet for government officials to get their opinions out and see how other officials respond and have discussions that they otherwise wouldnt be able to have because of their busy schedules
ESPN's Nate Silver, the roundtable analyze the political picture for the 2014 election.
Via Teresa Herrin
Jalyssa Martinez's insight:
this video speaks about various topics such as nate silver the man who predicted the outcome of the 2012 elections and the upcoming 2014 elections. it shows the problems that are going to affect the elctions, the government shutdown being one of the main ones. he also uses analysis of ratings and shows that some republicans that have won over blue states. i think the government shutdown will be the breaker when it comes to voting
Instead of talking of secession, i just feel like there should be a balanced form of legislation to please both sides and come to a compromise. it's an extreme idea and we really dont need another civil war, not saying it would be bloody or anything, but if states secede, it shows other countries how bad our government is that states have to form their own country and i dont think america should be put in that light
This article shows the "differences" between Republican Paul Ryan and Democrat Patty Murray. Since they are from two different parties, their views on what to do about the budget and fiscal matters you would think would clash. And in some parts they do, but as the article showed, both have in common one main idea: to get something done. Both were raised in homes where money was an issue, ryan- benefits from his fathers social security paid for his tuition, murray- lived on welfare due to the big family and poor employment of her parents. They are not going to spend money like crazy, both are very tactful and mindful of money but it seems as if murray will have her way before ryan can even try to pitch it to his party
i think the nsa is abusing it's power way too much. It says it's doing it for america's own good, to watch over foreign affairs and make sure the country is safe but this is violating laws and rights. They are finding ways to get through acts to get what they want and that's not right at all.
i dont get why he's being named a hero, since he is to blame for the shutdown and just trying to show off and his pride or arrogance getting in the way, and it didnt even help in the end, obamacare is still here, it's crappy and malfunctionng but it's still there. His efforts were a waste of time and i feel like it was all a plot just to get in the spotlight
i think this article shows how the issues in a presidency can cause so much discord and tension between a president and his vice president. i think they both went in wanting the same things, trying to help and aid the same issues but after 9/11, things changed between them. Cheney wanted to focus more on issues involving 9/11, and preventing attacks like those, while bush expanded his views and helped other causes as well and thats where they disagreed. I feel that a president and his vice president shouldnt have to agree on anything but for the sake of the country and presidency, they should come to comprises on such things as that
This article makes alot of sense. Politicians are just watching out for things that mirror their views, and because of that their views remain unchanged, they remain solely for them and dont consider other factors. It's selfish, and really doesnt do any good to help government or people
i think Democrats are losing faith in obama and his healthcare program, there has been so much bad rep from the healthcare system website crashing to people not being covered fully and so much more. It;s giving democrats a bad rep and Mr. Uptons bill is something that will help them out, and make them and the healthcare policy stronger
this article talks about obamacare and how 106,000 people have signed up. I feel that obama is doing everything he can but we're not seeing many results and thats why americans are so against obamacare. They need to fix it, and it's good that some problems have been solved like the insurance policies but we need more
i think it's unfair how these states are still sticking to their narrow minded ways. It's petty how theyre making same sex couples have to drive long ways to other bases to get their ID just so the state can save face or not to break the integrity of their constittution. it is just so annoying how some politicians will not comment or go against advocating for same sex marriage or things like these because they dont want to hurt their political side, like be a human being and actually think about what your action or lack of is doing
This video and article talk about religion, the first amendment and laws and how all three are connected. Under the first amendment, people are allowed to practice their own religion without being prosecuted but since the 1800's, people have gone to court and had cases where they have said the law has infringed upon their rights by limiting their practice of religion. I understand that people use certain things to aid in their practicing of religion, but the law, as it states in the article, is put to prohibit puiblic nuisances and theyre there for the safety of the public
oh my god he is wearing hipster glasses, you go perry you pull that look off. in this video rick perry talks about chris christie's winning a blue state, the government shutdown and senator cruz and the 216 elections. through out the video perry seems really chill, and on top of things
i think that it's good that we're getting more diversified in the scotus since the article says they are many justices on it currently that are religious and they represent people in that religion and so far there has been no justice that has represented the non theists population
Video on msnbc.com: Critical questions are being raised about data safety in light of hacking reports and news about NSA data collection. NBC’s Stephanie Gosk explains what happens after you hit ‘send’ on an email message.
this video speaks about what the path of an email really is. Not only can the person you send it to see it, but anyone really can open it. i think this has both cons and pros. yes, because anyone can see emails, it helps if there were ever to be something that went through that would hurt national security but it also worries people, and shows that we really dont have any privacy
i think it's really good that the senate is diversifying, while it is slow, it's progress. It shocked me that there very little black senators, and even little hispanics. the point of government is to represent the people, and minorities make up alot of the country so why dont they in congress?
this video talks about how not only popularity for the republican party has decreased but also how obama's is at an all time low,. Obama has been under various struggles over the past months, and each one has turned little by little the country's rating down, and is now at 42%. Obama is doing everything he can to deal with so many different problems, and i guess because we have not seen results and not seen obama operating, his personal rating is dropping down. i agree with the video that obama should be more visibe and outspoken about these issues to the american people so we can feel included and see that obama is doing something.
the video speaks about sebelius and the issues the obama care website has been having. I feel like she is being attacked due to the problems it's been having and the media, republicans, and everyone else that opposes obamacare is taking this as a weakness in the policy and blaming her for it and using it to their advantage to rally more people opposed to it
i think Paul has a good idea with the starting of this amendment. He's just trying to make policies equal for all of us regardless of party or title. He just wants everyone to be affected equally by them, the positive and negative affects and it will help congress and the president really consider the cons and pros of legislation
this article is just really snarky and sarcastic towards obamacare. It really shows how obamacare is being handled but is also ridiculing it in a harsh way. I appreciate that the author has information to back up his claims, and shows how obamacare is just getting its way politically and not really helping the american people but i feel as if the whole sarcasic attitude isnt helping to get rid of it
