Last month at the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) trade show several people came up to macProVideo.com's booth to ask me which Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) I think is best: Logic Pro...

This is something I am highly interested in and I found it really cool that Logic 9 has '"The Environment" that is unique in the audio world.'

Although in the same time they say "Logic can't hold a candle to Pro Tools when it comes to features like video editing (and it doesn't even try).", so both have their pros and cons on why you should be using what software.

This gives some great insight on both DAWs. One major underline difference for these programs is pro tools is much better when it comes to post productions  for things like movie or video design.

Jonathan Reigel's curator insight, December 5, 2015 7:00 PM

Whats a better DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) ? Many talk about Logic and Pro Tools. These are two of the best software's out there up to date. However there is a few differences between the two, but all in all they are the same workstation. Your biggest thing between the two is the 64-bit optimizer in Logic 7 as compared to a 32-bit in Pro Tools. Than another big difference is that Pro Tools is highly recommended for video editing as Logic losses in that category.

This arictle gives some great points about logic pro and pro tools. logic is a much more friendly to user program vs. pro tools which has a much more in depth learning process

Loni Ro's curator insight, December 5, 2015 9:35 PM

This article was a great read for myself especially due to me downloading both these programs recently. Today was the first day of software bootcamp for me. My career path does not give me the luxury of software preference because both are necessary learning tools. The one statistic that stood out to me is , Pro Tools is the music industries preferred program, enough said.

Casey Superba's curator insight, March 10, 4:41 PM

This article is very informational about which software should be used, it gives a comparison to whats the most professional. What gives you the most options or the most abilities? I found it to be very helpful, it gave me the answers I was looking for as to which was best overall.

What is Avid Interplay? The Basics. By Ian Krabacher

What is Avid Interplay? The Basics. By Ian Krabacher | itunes | Scoop.it

Posted by Ian Krabacher on March 20, 2013 •

The following is the second in a series of three blog posts from Ian Krabacher, Senior Principal Product Designer on Interplay, that will demystify the Avid Interplay Product Family, with a specific focus on Interplay Production. You can follow Ian on Twitter at @avidiank.

"First and foremost, and perhaps contrary to what some may expect, Avid Interplay isn’t a single product … it is actually a family of products. This family is comprised of powerful asset management and productivity tools designed to give media enterprises an environment where creativity and collaboration can thrive. These tools also help them get the most out of their assets, from field footage to finished broadcast masters and everything in between. And while the phrase ‘media enterprise’ sounds a bit grand, it’s worth noting that we at Avid use it as simple shorthand to refer to all the different types of facilities we serve."

Jordan Goldman on Editing Homeland (AVID Workflow)

Jordan Goldman on Editing Homeland (AVID Workflow) | itunes | Scoop.it

Posted by Bryant Frazer on October 15, 2012

(...) "Homeland works on a three-editor rotation, so that Goldman cuts every third episode, alternating with his cohorts on the show, Joe Hobeck and Terry Kelley. The show networks all three editors and two assistants (currently Shon Hedges and Garret Donnelly, though Ann Parish worked on part of season one) through an Avid Unity shared-storage system, and upgraded its five Avid Media Composer systems this year to 5.5. Goldman likes interface improvements in recent versions of the Avid software, including the ability to easily see which tracks from a multi-track audio clip are being used at any given point in the timeline."
