Like it a lot, but am worried that there's a lack of privacy, if we're talking about young learners.

Rethinking Teacher Roles in a New Networked World

Rethinking Teacher Roles in a New Networked World | ITL | Scoop.it
Author-educators Marc Prensky and Will Richardson opened up this weekend's conference with some big ideas on how technology is changing learning and the many ways schools need to adapt and catch up.
Jennifer Cirino's insight:

Highlights from the opening keynote address by Marc Prensky and Will Richardson from the "Engaging 21st Century Minds" conference. Discussing how technology is changing learning and how schools need to adapt.
As per Prensky: "the role of the human teacher is now 'to give students what technology can't—motivation, respect, empathy, and passion.'  ... [His] newest buzzword "futurecation," which he says involves preparing students to do things 'we could never do before.'"
As per Richardson: "teachers must be 'learners first, teachers second;' ... need to model the process of learning for students and show them what intrinsic motivation and curiosity and creativity look like."

Goodbye Essay, Hello Podcast | Dialogue

Goodbye Essay, Hello Podcast | Dialogue | ITL | Scoop.it

One of the greatest conflicts between new and old literacies is many educators’ continuing belief that students’ analytical skills are not properly developed through the use of new media. There is some justification for this: Many student-created new media works are simplistic mishmashes of audio and video clips with no thesis or rationale. New media is used more as a toy than as an educational tool. It is no wonder that many teachers, uncomfortable with new media to begin with, see it as harming student literacy.
