How to See Less of Florence

How to See Less of Florence | Italia Mia | Scoop.it

The real secret to enjoying Florence is to explore some of its less popular sites -- and to savor rather than rush, even if that means ticking fewer items off your list. [...]

Mariano Pallottini's insight:

Hurry up to visit the most touristy Italy, do once for ever the endless queues to museums or for a simple ice cream in the town center. There is definitely an Italy less known to explore not lacking of attraction and charm. Especially in Florence. Read the article

Notte Bianca White Night program 2013

Notte Bianca White Night program 2013 | Italia Mia | Scoop.it

We are back again, ready for an all-night extravaganza of events this Tuesday April 30th in Florence, Italy – I am of course referring to Notte Bianca or ‘White Night’ the day before May Day – labor day and a national holiday.
This year’s festivities will be under the direction of Felice Limosani, with an array of music, art demonstrations, and festivities throughout the city, each inspired by the theme “volare,” meaning “to fly.” Expect to see more people than you probably want to {projected 100,000} – but everyone will surely be in a great mood and this year’s events look pretty unique!
What to expect? Special museum hours, the traditional coffee-cornetto at Palazzo Vecchio at 6am and of course, tight-rope walking, concerts, exhibits and more!

Keep Updated!
The official site has the full program of events as well as links to all of their social networks, twitter @NotteBiancaFi and don’t forget the official event hashtag – #nottebiancafirenze .

Firenze in November – Florence without the Crowds:

Firenze in November – Florence without the Crowds: | Italia Mia | Scoop.it

While it’s wonderful to have warm weather, blue skies and sunshine, some parts of Tuscany for me are simply too busy during the summer. And, if many of the things I want to see or do are indoors, visiting out of season is really not a bad idea.

Art of the state: fascist Italy's paintings go on show

Art of the state: fascist Italy's paintings go on show | Italia Mia | Scoop.it

An exhibition in Florence strives to present 1930s Italy as a cauldron of experimentation. Instead, it's a bleak journey into the aesthetic lifelessness of a totalitarian society...

Firenze Madre | Florentine singers release video homage to their hometown

Firenze Madre di Riccardo Azzurri

Firenze madre, you make me smile
Firenze madre, you are paradise
In front of your monuments, hearts dream
And for this reason I sing; I sing for you…

Firenze madre, Firenze Viola
Your people win; they’re no longer alone
And along your streets, so many great loves are still born today,
For this reason I sing; I sing for you, I sing for you.

Rare ‘zonkey’ thrills Italian crowds

Rare ‘zonkey’ thrills Italian crowds | Italia Mia | Scoop.it

Florence - An act of love between Martin the zebra and Giada the donkey in the romantic Italian city of Florence has produced a rare “zonkey” baby that is drawing crowds to an unusual exotic animal shelter. Three-month-old Ippo is already a star and the owners of the farm say they have received requests to rights over image including one from a soft-toy company and another from Disney to make a cartoon. “It is very rare that a zebra and a donkey mate and reproduce,” Serena Aglietti, the daughter of the shelter's owner, said at the site in central Florence, near the city's landmark monuments. [...]

Mariano Pallottini's insight:

If you are around Florence you can visit the place where Ippo is living. Actually is close to the city center inside the Park of Le Cascine, Via del Barco, 15/m - See the internet site:

2013 German Christmas Market-Santa Croce | An American in Italy

2013 German Christmas Market-Santa Croce | An American in Italy | Italia Mia | Scoop.it
Every year, the Piazza of Santa Croce hosts a German Christmas Market through the month of December. This is one of my favorite events. This year, the market is a little smaller, but still seems to have all of the necessities to make a wonderful market.
There are booths of strudel, vin brulee (hot mulled wine), pork and sauerkraut, artisanal beers, handcrafted ornaments, handmade soaps and potpourri’s, clothing, dishtowels, jackets, scarves, and gloves. Of course there is music in the air and a real festive spirit throughout the piazza.
