How to Use Transform Tool in Photoshop?

How to Use Transform Tool in Photoshop? | IT Tutorials | Scoop.it
Queensland based IT Services provider specialising in IT support, software development and IT consulting, Managed IT Services provider, for all your Information Technology requirements.
Axle IT's insight:

The transform tool in Photoshop comes with various features. This tool is used by designers for resizing, reshaping, moving and rotating various images and objects within layers. In this tutorial, we will try to understand how these things can be done with a simple picture which you can see below:

It is important to note that the transform tool will react only when it is used on an active layer (which can be seen as highlighted layer in your Photoshop window).

Select free transform tool from the edit button tool:

You can also select the transform tool by selecting Ctrl+T (Win) / Command+T (T for Transform).

The area highlighted in red circles can be resized, rotated and dragged to give various shapes as per the designer’s requirement.

For example, we can increase width of the shape by selecting any point in right or left side. See the image below for your reference:

Dragging the image from either left or right side will only extend that side. But if you will select Alt (Win) option and then drag, the image will reshape itself right from the centre.

Resizing:
Any shape can be resized by selecting any icon (red circle) and dragging it like shown in below picture:

Rotating:
We do not require dragging to rotate the images in transform tool. When we will click outside boundary of the shape, a small arrow will appear which can be adjusted to rotate the shape.

The target point of the shape can also be shifted, so that further dragging and resizing takes place from a different centre.
Moving:
To move any shape, just click inside the shape excluding the target point and drag on to move the shape.

Some more transform Options in Photoshop:
Although free transform tool is of great help but Adobe offers more options for you to work on shapes. For using these, simply click on edit and select Transform.

If you are working with free transform tool, then you can access the options listed above just by selecting right click (Win) / Control –Click (Mac) anywhere inside the document.

Skew:
Select ‘Skew’ option from the right click and then drag right side icon, the image will be tilted while keeping the sides parallel. Repeat same process with the left side to skew the image. It will appear something like this:

You can also switch to the skew, perspective and distort mode by using the shortcut keys while using free transform tool.
Skew or distort Mode = Ctrl (Win) / Command (Mac)
Perspective Mode = Shift + Ctrl + Alt (Win) / Shift + Command + Option (Mac)
When you have finished resizing, distorting or any kind of transformation with the image, press Enter (Win) / Return (Mac) to accept the transformation and exit out of the image.
If you are not satisfied with the changes, simply select Esc to move out without accepting the changes.

How To Use Layers And Layer Tool In Photoshop

How To Use Layers And Layer Tool In Photoshop | IT Tutorials | Scoop.it
Queensland based IT Services provider specialising in IT support, software development and IT consulting, Managed IT Services provider, for all your Information Technology requirements.
Axle IT's insight:

We have earlier discussed about various tools and working with images in Photoshop, now we will talk about layers in this blog. Layers are an amazing part of this software making life easier for designers. They are free to throw colours of their imagination on the canvas of layers giving way to beautiful web designs. In this blog, we will today learn how to construct a simple diagram using two or more layers. Before we start, let’s take a look at “The Layer Panel”. To work with layers, it is required that you know layer panel completely.

Layer panel is used:

1) To create new layers,
2) Delete existing layers
3) Move layers above and below each other
4) Turn layers on and off in the document
5) Add layer masks and layer effects

We will open a new document in Photoshop and it will show us a background layer filled with white space. To create a new diagram or image on it, we will further add two new layers carrying two separate image.

Once we click on the ‘new layer icon’, a new layer emerges alongside the background layer (shown in the picture below).

The layer one is seen as highlighted layer in the above picture, which means currently you are working on this layer. Whatever we will add to this page will be added to our Layer1. Now add the rectangle or any shape by clicking on the rectangular Marquee Tool from the Photoshop toolbox.

You can also create a rectangle by clicking on the blank space. Now you can fill the rectangle by selecting ‘edit’ and ‘then’ fill buttons. This time we will fill red colour in the rectangle.

Now our Photoshop open document will look something like that:

Now, we will add another layer 2 and fill it with a different colour.

Now layer 2 is the highlighted layer in the figure given above, we will again create a rectangle and fill it with green colour as shown below: Now as we can see below, all the three layers are independent of each other and doing changes to one layer will not disturb the other layer.

We can move the two rectangles and adjust the figure as per our requirement. Let us see how:
Click on 1st layer to select it –

Now, drag and drop the 1st layer above the second layer.

Layer one is now appearing above layer 2 in the figure:

Now, we see a picture below where all the layers are independent of each other and yet creating the diagram perfectly.

Benefit of using layers in Photoshop –
• All the images or pictures will be on different layers making it easier for you to do changes and switch layers simultaneously.

• It also gives way to limitless expression of ideas as you are saved from trouble of correcting all the pictures every time you make some change.

• Layer Tool provides better segmentation of the work in form of background, layer1, Layer 2 and so on.
