Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

A book worth reading! This is a service most every American needs or wants and therefore how they run the business matters to everyone.

Excerpt:

America has some of the worst Internet infrastructure in the developed world, and it's getting worse year by year. It's thanks to the crooked phone companies and their corrupt pals in Congress, the state houses, and the regulators. These titans have the country by its nervous system, and they're so afraid of criticism that they engage in petty, corrupt astroturfing to attack books that call them out. Now is a great time to buy Captive.......

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

If there is no thought of not staying within the net neutrality rules then why spend millions of lobby dollars fighting what should then be so easy just to verify in correct accusations that a violation has occurred. Such violations have occurred in the past so the trust us we're a nice company really is on shaky ground.

The End of the (Wire)Line | Eye on ALEC, What Matters Today | BillMoyers.com | Occupy Your Voice! Mulit-Media News and Net Neutrality Too | Scoop.it
Believe it or not, landlines and dial-up are still the means by which roughly 19 million Americans communicate with the rest of the world. That is, unless companies like AT&T get their way and unplug them.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Well, our state is on the list! Check the ALEC exposed list to find the snakes in your local grass. Trust they are there and it isn't the interest of the citizens in town they are sneaking around looking after. They also don't care if you the next Trevon Martin, the next laid off worker, the next polluted backyard or town, They one without a local controlled school or without affordable or any communication service. nice ATT and nice elected state officials looking out for ATT rather than residents.

This explains why I have been paying ATT in Mississippi to get very poor cell service or no cell service in the room where I work and the back side of our home. No, I never signed up with ATT wireless. They just kept buying the other companies I preferred one after the other until there was nearly no one others to choose. Then we got into the get this phone for a dime or 200 dollars and we own you for two years thing. I am trying T-Mobile and if my home is forced to go wireless I will go with them. They cover the same ares nearly and are far, far cheaper since they offer unlimited everything, but data is throttled down after a point of service...I normally don't notice the slow down..but then I count on my land line for fast service in the home.

ATT may have noticed many don't want to pay for limited internet service on wireless plans so they only use their devices in WiFi spots or with home routers. Now they can force it on everyone I guess.

How Do You Properly Compensate Content Creators When Content Curation Is The New King?

How Do You Properly Compensate Content Creators When Content Curation Is The New King? | Occupy Your Voice! Mulit-Media News and Net Neutrality Too | Scoop.it

"The curator is getting more cred for recognizing good content than the creator is for making good content."

Via Robin Good
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

I've heard everyone from Jaron Lanier to Tim Berners-Lee and a number of other noteworthy tech brains bring up this topic up. How do the creators of content and innovative ideas cash in on the contributions they have made that everyone is passing along and sharing? No one wants their work and thoughts stolen and most everyone I know wants creative people to keep creating what we need and want and would like them rewarded and to be able to earn a decent living doing that. This article is about how we can make sure that happens.

Thought provoking article with a great twist at the end (No spoiler, you better read it all). Thank you Robin for zooming in available opportunities for curators.

Deanna Dahlsad's curator insight, July 22, 2013 12:34 AM

Thought provoking, however, montetization of curation is still very limited. Scoop. It & others offer no means for monetization at all. Like content creation, & most everything on the net, compensation for cuation is still a giant question mark.

corneja's curator insight, July 23, 2013 5:24 PM

Thanks for this reflexion about contents and their creators in the times of the content curation!  Sorry, I didn't intend to make a rhyme. :-/

Coffee Party USA's curator insight, July 22, 2013 6:12 AM

OK! Finally a corporate magazine writer that got it right! All I can say is "Yes!" "What he says! He's got this right!" He not telling anyone what to do. He's just telling or warning all of us that we better get informed and get into the planning of the future of our most major, influential, communication system in history or else.....

WE need to step up and learn what is going on from all sides and speak out or get stuck with the deal scared governments or companies will shove to us for freedom of speech and privacy.

Great article encouraging all players to get involved and do it quick. The EFF, The Electronic Frontier Foundation, https://www.eff.org/‎, and Freepress at www.freepress.net/‎ and Demand Progress at www.demandprogress.org/‎  great citizen rights sources and have been in the push back on government and corporate overreach into the internet and web for nearly a decade in some cases....They all stay on top of other media too. Avaaz (avaaz.org/‎) looks at this from the international side. ATT, Verizon, Time Warner your own ISP, and all the companies you do business with plus every government in the world are moving forward on this and will try to sale you their position as well through main media....Do your homework if you want a say you won't regret.

Excerpt:

Both new nations and old ones are rushing to update their laws for the digital era; there is a narrow window of opportunity to shape the digital future before these internet policy regimes are set into law. So this is precisely the time for policy activists in emerging and transitional nations to focus on building the legal framework under which freedom of expression  – both traditional and online – can play its proper role in a democratic society.
