Blackburn: FTC Could Wind Up De Facto Net Neutrality Arbiter
Broadcasting & Cable
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R- Tenn.) advised the Federal Trade Commission Tuesday that an upcoming decision out of the D.C.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Would the trade commission be the best one to manage and guard net neutrality? I'm not so sure? What do you think? This sounds like a boring subject, but without the WEB neutrality we have had from the start small business startups and individual users could be the biggest losers in history. That is how powerful control of the WEB is or power players like Verizon would not be paying so much to buy up policy,  politicians and maybe even  court judges it appears  to get hold of the internet and have it their way. Too much power and wealth to too few is dangerous.

Excerpt:

At an FTC oversight hearing in the House Commerce, Manufacturing & Trade Subcommittee, Blackburn told the commissioners in attendance that if the court throws out the FCC's Open Internet order, the FTC will become the de facto arbiter of network neutrality, saying that would "dramatically increase" attention  - See more at: http://www.broadcastingcable.com/news/washington/blackburn-ftc-could-wind-de-facto-net-neutrality-arbiter/125466#sthash.DKQDhs45.dpuf

At first I thought this article was just going to be the same-old-same-old stuff on why storytelling is important in marketing. Yawn. Been there. Done that.

But as I scanned the post I said, "Hey, I love the visuals! And the points made are different than I expected. Yay!"

So here it is. I particularly like the points about Value and Memory. Really nice.

Enjoy this article.

Apple to fight US order to build iPhone encryption backdoor

Apple to fight US order to build iPhone encryption backdoor | Occupy Your Voice! Mulit-Media News and Net Neutrality Too | Scoop.it

Earlier this morning, news spread that the FBI has given Apple a court order to help them break the security on the iPhone previously owned by the deceased

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

This is more important than background checks for owning guns or even owning guns at all. This is about opening up a back door to your privacy for all governments as well as for talented malicious hackers will going forward have an opening to connect to all our personal electronic information....That information pretty well now starts collecting before you are even born whether you like it or not. This back door would also allow governments and those with malicious intentions and even anyone/or corporation with big data collection abilities into your personal communication system.

Most people now use these systems and connect to even more personal data links and connect to others. Even tribal camel herders in deserts use these systems on a moment to moment basis. Do you think serious mass murders could find a way to still do what they intend? Did people mass murder before electronics?

Just think if a tech savvy hacker wants to target important people. This back door can give those hackers the access to any data as well as the government having access to the potential bad guy (that might decide take precautions to go around that open door) but all the rest of us will also be unlocked and have unprotected privacy for our information as well....In the case of suicide bombers and attackers it is worth the risk that no one will catch them before they carry out what plan they intend to take a death risk anyway. But what is the risk of this privacy invasion to the rest of us that plan to go on living and not kill ourselves?

You may say good people should have nothing to hide....Do you really believe everyone that gets hold of your personal information intends to use it for your good and understand you than you are not being honest with yourself. What will happen if the USA leads this privacy invasion? Think what will happen to people that are already living in nations that love to oppress and suppress their residents. Many people would love to find out things that could disadvantage someone else and give them an advantage over that person. A simple difference of opinion or a major life catastrophic event is enough to do the trick very often. Think of that co-worker or friend that used what you thought was as honest disclosure against you...Rare is the person that hasn't experienced that more than once.

Some Storytelling Today: Hate Is Louder Than Love. Change It

Some Storytelling Today: Hate Is Louder Than Love. Change It | Occupy Your Voice! Mulit-Media News and Net Neutrality Too | Scoop.it

"I heard someone say recently, 'hate is louder than love.' And there is truth to that. But when intolerance, fear, and xenophobia are on the march, when the hate can feel deafening...we are going to keep working with every cell of our beings to turn up the volume on love." -Dave Isay

Karen Dietz's curator insight, April 5, 2:39 PM

If you are into storytelling, you are probably into StoryCorps. I am passionate about what they stand for.

Hate is easy. Stories promoting hate are easy. It takes courage, character, principles, and leadership to not go there. StoryCorp shows us the way.

Yesterday I received an email blast from them asking for donations. I rarely promote an organization. But their message is important, particularly in today's world. Donating is totally up to you, and I have no relationship with the organization.

Here's a short excerpt from the email I received about their latest campaign, "Listening is an act of love":

"I heard someone say recently, 'hate is louder than love.' And there is truth to that. But when intolerance, fear, and xenophobia are on the march, when the hate can feel deafening...we are going to keep working with every cell of our beings to turn up the volume on love." -Dave Isay

Dear Karen,

At StoryCorps, we know that listening is an act of love. That is why we feel so fortunate to be able to share the power of our work with you...the work we do has never been more important.

Your gift of $50 or more will help us continue our mission to preserve and share humanity's stories...Join today and we'll also send you a copy of our book, Listening Is an Act of Love, and with a gift of $250 or more, you'll receive the collector's edition of Listening is an Act of Love, which includes a CD containing the audio featured in the book.

Please help us as we continue to turn up the volume on love by becoming a StoryCorpsCorps Member today.
Warm regards, Brian Schumann

It's an opportunity I thought you should know about. Check them out. Yes, storytelling and story listening is an act of love. Even if you don't donate, take a stand today for storytelling love instead of hate.

Karen

The Justice Department reasserted claims that the tech company is putting its brand ahead of safety in formal legal rebuttal over landmark privacy case
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:
Perhaps the governments of nations (including the USA) should have worried about warrant-proofing by not data mining millions of electronic data without a warrant. These nations have proven to not recognize anyone's privacy so why should citizens that own and use electronic devices trust government spies and data miners from these nations to care about citizen's privacy in the future. After all it took one man to be willing to be exiled and others to be placed in jail for these governments to tell us the truth even a little bit.
