OVERNIGHT TECH: FCC releases new batch of net neutrality comments | Occupy Your Voice! Mulit-Media News and Net Neutrality Too | Scoop.it
The FCC released a bulk file of more than 2.5 million public comments.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Closed comment period or not ...keep the comments and calls coming to everyone including the FCC, White House and or Reps!

Excerpt:

The analysis also found nearly two-thirds of people were opposed to "fast lanes" — formally known as paid prioritization deals — and a nearly equal amount argued for the commission to reclassify broadband Internet as a telecommunications service, which many argue is the only way to prevent fast lane deals. About 5 percent expressed opposition to regulations, while only 1 percent expressed clear opposition to the concept of net neutrality.

Thousands have protested in Budapest against a planned new tax on internet data transfers, which they said would curb fundamental democratic freedoms.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

The first step would be for those providing data to be paid for it rather than taxed on it. Perhabs they should think about taxing those that make money off of the Data they are collecting rather than those providing data. It looks mo0re and more like internet and communication need to become bonafide public ultiities or privately connected and co-op owned person to person.

Are the political winds shifting in favor of net neutrality? - California - NewsLocker | Occupy Your Voice! Mulit-Media News and Net Neutrality Too | Scoop.it
The unknown factor that keeps advocates of network neutrality up at night is whether our political leaders will have the spine to resist the principle's enemies -- the Comcasts and Verizons of the world, who wish to profiteer from charging website...
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Let's hope the leaders have the spine to resist the influence even if they take the dollars of Comcast and Verizon. The money is a donation in support of a canidate not for purchase of a canidate. Maybe we ought to remind these companies about that. Support is legal, but purchase of canidates is really not legal.

The car company is warning the FCC not to expand regulation of wireless Internet.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

The only reason to oppose open consumer choice of clicks to links (otherwise known as net neutrality) is to allow GM and ISPs to over ride our personal selection of links and services in favor of those they have cut deals with to benefit their own interest. Call GM and tell them to take a hike and we won't bail GM out next time  if it  thinks it can undermine our choice about who we connect with. Yes! Demand mobile devices receive  equal protection for neutrality and open equal access. GM has it wrong and is working against our interest!

Why Silicon Valley Giants Want Washington to Regulate the Wireless Internet

Why Silicon Valley Giants Want Washington to Regulate the Wireless Internet | Occupy Your Voice! Mulit-Media News and Net Neutrality Too | Scoop.it
The Internet Association argues that the FCC's net neutrality rules should apply to both wireless and wired Internet
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Yes! It is "Likely to inspire strong opposition" from ISPs and Republicans and some wayward  Democrats that get loads of money form these ISPs. The whole debate needs to inspire far more citizen outrage as ISPs attempt to manipulate the internet to line their pockets even more as they empty everyone else's pocket and seek control the public message and content.....If ISPs are not our common telephone carriers anymore then end their license to be telephones operators. That would make it fair and certainly interesting.  Please contact Representatives, the White House and the FCC Republicans and let them know we want the neutrality that made the WEB the power house it is protected by LAW!

EXCERPT:

Wireless Internet wasn’t included in the FCC’s 2010 Open Internet rules after federal officials determined that wireless networks should be given a regulatory break because they were both more novel and more prone to congestion than wired service. Later that year Google and Verizon (VZ) proposed Internet rules that made the same distinction.

The idea was that wireless Internet providers could experiment more freely, and that has started to happen. Earlier this year AT&T announced a sponsored data plan where content companies could pay for better access to customers, and last month T-Mobile (TMUS) said it wouldn’t count activity on some music services against customers’ data plans. These actions wouldn’t have been allowed under the old rules if wired Internet providers tried to do the same thing (although anything goes at the moment, as the FCC tries to come up with new rules).

The Internet Association wants the government to cut off such experiments in its new net neutrality rules. The FCC “should apply uniform non-discrimination, no-blocking, and transparency rules to wireline and wireless Internet access providers,” the group wrote in its letter. “There is no further reason to differentiate between the two platforms in applying the rules.”

This would be a significant expansion of net neutrality rules, especially given how much Internet activity is shifting from PCs to mobile phones. It’s likely to inspire some strong opposition. The Republican members of the FCC are opposed to any net neutrality rules, so they would surely oppose extending them into the wireless realm.
