As AT&T lobbyists push for merger, some also steer campaign money | Political Party Time

Hartley and AT&T’s PAC are both listed as draws to a fundraiser for Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., tomorrow. The company’s PAC is also hosting a dinner for Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Calif., scheduled at the same time. A third event is for Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich., in early May.

Since the merger announcement on March 20, AT&T has also snapped up five new lobbyists to work on the merger, including two lobbyists from Peck, Madigan, et al with ties to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which will be holding a hearing to review the merger on May 11. One is a Democratic lobbyist Jeffrey Peck, a former staff director for the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the other is Sean Richardson, a former chief of staff to Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., who sits on the antitrust panel.  The two lobbyists were among the hosts for a Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., fundraiser in January.

AT&T is the second highest donor to members of Congress between 1989 through 2010, at over $46 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, including nearly $4 million last election cycle, which comprises donations from the company’s PAC and individuals connected with the organization.
Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

Our Mississippi Senator Wicker is siding with the Telecoms and Cable companies against the FCC's ruling that protects Net Neutrality for everyone.…Wonder why?

Monica S Mcfeeters's insight:

All I can say is...show me a Republican that knows more about net neutrality then Tim Berners-Lee or even as much and I will listen. Show me one Republican that took no money to run for office from a Telecom or Cable industry and I will even give that person half a consideration on that point alone. The Republicans that do not understand that net neutrality is critical and think it is new or that Obama dreamed it up are just too clueless to ever have been in congress...and would be better role players in some old "Walking Dead Zombie"  movies. http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/10/08/tim-berners-lee-web-creator-defends-net-neutrality/?_r=0

FCC Chair: Net Neutrality Is "Right Choice" Because Big ISPs Want "Unfettered Power" | Occupy Your Voice! Mulit-Media News and Net Neutrality Too | Scoop.it
Why is net neutrality so important? Because otherwise, Wheeler said, “private gatekeepers,” like Comcast and Verizon, “will have unfettered power to control commerce and free expression.”
He reiterated his support for the new rule that the FCC voted to adopt late last month, saying, “I believe that the result will be overwhelmingly positive for consumers and innovators,” before delving into the “avalanche of arguments” that have been brandished against it.
“We have been told that our rules are too clear and too uncertain; that we are too much fixated on the past and too much focused on the future; that we will protect the profits of incumbent broadband providers and that we will threaten them,” Wheeler said. “What should we make of these contradictions, this fog of advocacy?”
Wheeler answered his own question: “We should conclude that the biggest broadband providers in the land have one objective: to operate free from control by their customers and free from oversight from government.”
