2010 Ten-Year Forecast: Research Materials - The Future is a High-Resolution Game | Institute For The Future | It's All Social | Scoop.it

This next decade will be one where we become both the gamers and the creators of the game itself. The goals of the game are clear: Happiness—what we really want out of life; Resilience—a way to respond better, adapt more quickly, and find steadiness amidst perturbation; and Legacy—crafting a world worth leaving for the next generation, the next hundred years of play. But the rules are less obvious. Do we follow the old rules of the past century, and compete to grow? Or do we create new rules for a new era? This is a game where we, the players, must choose the rules.

In Google Reader, as I read articles from the blogs to which I’ve subscribed, I will tag articles, sites, videos of interest, etc. using Diigo. These saved resources are available online and accessible from any Internet connected device. I can easily share specific resources.....

Archive: Popcorn.js 'Making Video & The Web Play Nicely Together' a HTML5 Open Framework | It's All Social | Scoop.it

For media makers:
Popcorn.js allows video, audio and other media to control elements of a webpage. Combining our library with a mixture of standard HTML + JavaScript, authors can let their media be the “conductor” of interactive and immersive experiences.

For developers:
Popcorn.js is an event framework for HTML5 media. Popcorn.js utilizes the native HTMLMediaElement properties, methods and events, normalizes them into an easy to learn API, and provides a plugin system for community contributed interactions.

What is the Value Add of Journal publishing companies? Anyone? Bueller?

What is the Value Add of Journal publishing companies? Anyone? Bueller? | It's All Social | Scoop.it

You know this article is great and I love the movement toward open access, I just wish that everyone involved (except the publishers who may or may not already know this) would realize that there is NO REASON to pay these exorbitant subscription prices and lock up this info any more. Peer review is not a trade secrect. Publishing has become mass customization. WAKE UP...what is the value add of these journals? Do they do the peer reviews? No. Other academics do. Write articles? Nope. Look at the editorial boards. Academics. I don't know, can you write a Table of Contents? I can. Do you know of any globally available distribution method for knowledge? Hmmmm...oh wait, right! That Interweb thingee. Seriously, someone from a journal company, reply and tell me what you bring to the tabel that "We the People" can't do for ourselves! Defend your business model!
