Pocatello, Chubbuck to get several new businesses - Idaho State Journal

New permits to build restaurants and a tire business in the Pocatello/Chubbuck area might signal an uptick in economic activity in the two communities.
Conversations for Inquiring Minds's insight:

Here we go again . . . Although I like Red Robin and I have nothing against the other fast food offerings - is it really true that we should celebrate more fast food and a discount tire?  What about some higher paying manufacturing or white collar jobs?  I thought we were trying to build the new silicon valley?  Building more tech oriented training might be a good start.  At least ISU got its accreditation.  Wow - hope no one is looking to pay their mortgages on these jobs.

Pocatello considers moving money to fund connector project - LocalNews8.com

Pocatello considers moving money to fund connector project - LocalNews8.com | It Matters | Scoop.it
The city's finance department has come up with an internal solution to help pay for one of its biggest capital projects.
Conversations for Inquiring Minds's insight:

Here we go again.  It only took a decade for the City of Pocatello to decide to raid the street fund to "pay for the connector."  Does the city need the connector?  Yes and it's been on the books for about 20 years so it's time to get it done.  However, and it's a big but, the street fund gets its money from the State which has continually lowered the amount cities get for street repair.  Does the Council really believe they will have the funds to pay back $2M + in loans to sanitation.  If they do pay it back you can probably kiss paving projects goodbye until it's paid off.  Hopefully it won't take another decade so that the roads don't turn to dirt.

Conversations for Inquiring Minds's insight:

It's interesting that arguably Sigmund Freud had the first therapy dog.  After being diagnosed with cancer in the jaw he had surgery that afterwards left him with debilitating pain.  His daughter suggested that he get a dog and he followed her advise.  He got a chow and the two became inseparable until his death.  The dog not only helped him with his pain but Freud noted that with the dog in his therapy sessions his patients were more open and shared more freely during therapy.
